I'm setting up a new Samba 4 Domain on a Debian Jessie machine.
The dc works.
Now I'm trying to setup a fileserver following the samba wiki.
winbind is running on both machines, getent and wbinfo show the users and
groups of the domain.
However, when I try
net rpc rights list accounts -U"MYDOM\Administrator"
Enter MYDOM\Administrator's password:

Hai Rowland, his setup is ok.
Im guessing this has todo with your dhcp options or resolvconf settings or dhcpclient settings or nsswitch.conf resolv order is changes.
Or did you change /etc/hosts.conf to bind, hosts
Its one of the above ;-)

Wine needs a long time to start
...he vanilla sources for 2.6.16 with the CK Patchset.
Everything works fine, except wine. Everytime i start an application
with wine or just winecfg it needs a long time to come up.
Winecfg e.g. needs about 2 minutes (with the default Ubuntu kernel
abount 10s). During that wait time i can hear some knittering
out of my speakers. This is the same with the default kernel but now it
is slower - like the rest. ;(
When an Application is up it works good. But why does it take so long??
Are there any specific kernel options i have to activate or deactivate?
Any suggestions?
And please excuse by fair english...

RSync with /really/ long file lists
Hi everyone!
rsync 2.5.7
linux RHES v3
We need to sync over 4 Million files, and when we run rsync we run out of
memory! :(
We were going to batch things, but the build in Batch mode still will use a
large amount of memory. Any manualy batching is proving to be harder than
you'd think, even with --include and --exclude flags. The flags actually make
it still have to recurse the whole

Access Problems
Hello,
I have a very strange access problem, and do not know how to get rid of it.
We have a server with a Raid 1 installed running under SuSE 9.2 (Samba
3.0.9-2.3).
There are some shares where several users need access to. The permissions of
the directories are
rwxrwxr-x user1 users
when files on that shares are accessed by a Windows Client a strange behaviour
occurs.

Try,
net rpc rights list accounts -U"MYDOM\Administrator" -S servername.domain.tld
Since you trying from localhost, it wil always first connect to localhost.
And you domain is not know on localhost..

Problems with migration from SuSE 10.0 to debian etch
Hello,
after a total crash of hardware, we had to reconstruct our Samba PDC from
tape.
Since the old installation was already pretty old (SuSE 10.0) we moved to
Debian etch.
I did the following.
I migrated the machines from the old passwd and shadow files to the new ones.
Then I copied all data and the whole directory /etc/samba to the new machine.
Then I set the permissions of the data to

I thought some of you might be amused by this.
In my non-work time, I'm an avid weaver and teacher of weaving. I'm
working on a project involving creating many detailed weaving
patterns, so I wrote R code to automate it.

Weird behaviour of one Win7 user
Hello list,
I have a samba 3.5.6 running on a Debian squeeze machine. This box is running
since more than a year without any problems.
Since a couple of days we have the following problem.
One Win7 user doesn't get his user profile any more
The log file tells:
[2013/03/04 07:43:14.641151, 1] auth/auth_util.c:580(make_server_info_sam)
User WIN7MACHINE$ in passdb, but getpwnam() fails!
