NET::LDAP Help Anyone? Maybe session Help? Bring my server to it's knees Help?
Does anybody know what the correct way to cache results from Net::LDAP bind_as? I''ve been struggling for about a day now and I know it''s something really easy. But when ever I do something like this - def self.login(username, password) begin ldap = Net::LDAP.new ldap.host = "192.168.1.16" ldap.port = 389 result = ldap.bind_as(

swap_pager: indefinite wait buffer
My server just literally was brought to it's knees with this message spewing on the console: swap_pager: indefinite wait buffer: bufobj: 0, blkno: 1203133, size: 4096 (blkno and size were varying) Some searching says that this is or was a bug. Has this been fixed yet? If so, what should I upgrade to? I'm currently running 6.3 Michael Gr...

How to determine the number of dominant eigenvalues in PCA
...f dominant eigenvalues when applying PCA on sample covariance matrix. Assume x-axis is the number of eigenvalues (1, 2, ....,n), and y-axis is the corresponding eigenvalues (a1,a2,..., an) arranged in desceding order. So this x-y plot will be a decreasing curve. Someone mentioned using the elbow (knee) method to find the point that the maximal curvature of this curve occurs. The number at this point would be the number of dominant eigenvalues. But I could not find any reference papers on this idea. Does anyone has tried this method or knows more details on this? Thanks for your point. Fred...

known_hosts vulnerability?
..., at http://www.techworld.com/security/news/index.cfm?NewsID=3668 talking about an SSH weakness involving the known_hosts file. I apologize if this issue has already been addressed, but the mailing list archives didn't turn up anything when i tried searching for something relevant. So; not to knee-jerk or anything, but is anyone currently looking into this? Does this need to be addressed, or has it already been taken care of? Offhand, on a scale of 0 - 11, this would seem to rate kinda high, ~7. Am i off-base? >From the article: "a known_hosts hashing scheme proposed by MIT has been...

host freeze when starting VM
...chromium browser. Right now htop tells me that 10.1 of 15.4 GB are occupied, so that should be about 2GB, because I suppose 8GB are just reserved for the hugepages. I donĀ“t have any swap space. In my latest attempt I gave a newly created VM 64MB of ram and this also brought the system down to its knees. So I would like to understand why this is happening. Is it some configuration issue I'm not aware of or maybe even some bug? Can someone give any idea on this? Thanks in advance Alex

ruby-debug 0.1.3
Hello Everyone, I''m pleasant to announce the release of ruby-debug 0.1.3. If you think that ruby-breakpoint is too limited for your needs and debug.rb brings your application to its knees, you might find this small extension useful. INSTALL It''s a usual procedure: $ gem install ruby-debug DOCS This library has almost identical interface with the standard debug.rblibrary. Also you can check out my little tutorial at http://www.datanoise.com/articles/2006/07/12/tutori...

Samba seems to cause complete server crash
Hi all, I have done some extensive searching, and drawn a blank so far... Nothing odd is reported in samba logs, or in the syslog file. However, if I try to play an avi straight off the samba server, on an XP client with MP10, it brings the whole deal to its knees after a few mins at the most. I have to hard reset the server. Other than this, all my other uses are flawless (game server, dhcp, firewall, teamspeak, peerguardian... etc). I don't _think_ its a firewall problem, as all internal traffic is ACCEPTED by default, and I don't have a perm...

[LLVMdev] Integer divide by zero

I'll have to give it some more thought. Thanks for this, Duncan. My knee-jerk reaction is that emulating hardware behaviour in software should be avoided. At least in this specific case. dovecot Digest, Vol 89, Issue 26
...nyway doubt most mbox > users want to switch to a whole new layout. Mbox users might not, but Maildir or dbox users might want to, especially if users have a lot of folders (One of mine has ~2500) Directories definitely get slower to list with more files/subdirectories in them and there are knee points beyond which they get substantially slower (Where the knee is depends on the type of FS but it's usually a power of 2)

ANNOUNCE: x11-ssh-askpass v1.2.0
...(does anyone use either of those? I thought not). - Now installs in /usr/local/libexec/openssh/, to conform to recent releases of the portable OpenSSH. This release of x11-ssh-askpass has received cursory testing. Although the changes are relatively small and contained, well ... so is knee surgery, but that doesn't mean the patient can walk right afterward. Please bludgeon this release severely and send me the corpse. It would be nice for this to go into the next round of portable OpenSSH RPM packages. Cheers. -- jim knoble | jmknoble at jmknoble.cx | http://www.jmknoble.cx/

zfs kills box, memory related?
...''ve got solaris express (b52) and a zfs mirror, but this command locks up my box within 5 seconds: % cmp first_4GB_file second_4GB_file It''s not just these two 4GB files, any serious work in the filesystem (but I suspect the larger the file the worse it gets) bring the box to its knees. I''ve tried setting the maximum ARC size (seting c,p,c_max with mdb) but it doesn''t help. Any other suggestions? As a newcomer my other questions are things like: 1) how can dtrace be used to debug this? (I know about truss but dtrace sounds more cool!) 2) how do I upgrade my...

Anyone used Siemens SIP/Dect phones?
..., I am close to purchasing some new DECT phones for our home office here in the UK. We use Asterisk and I am sorely tempted by the Siemens C475IP or the "soon-to-become-available-in-the-uk" S685IP. Both systems have great feature sets and, on-paper at least, look to be the bee's knees. Anyone got any skeletons on them? Thanks Alan -- The way out is open! http://www.theopensourcerer.com
