"stuck" in kmdb due to dtrace breakpoint()
So I realize this is somewhat stupid, and I''ve actually gotten myself out of kmdb to kill my dtrace script but this has happened in the past and I''m wondering if there''s any better way around it than hitting :c a bunch of times. Say you set a breakpoint() to fire in a common function. This will drop you into kmdb where you can do some debugging, you take a lo...

A couple of issues
I''ve been testing ZFS since it came out on b27 and this week I BFUed to b30. I''ve seen two problems, one I''ll call minor and the other major. The hardware is a Dell PowerEdge 2600 with 2 3.2GHz Xeons, 2GB memory and a perc3 controller. I have created a filesystem for over 1000 users on it and take hourly snapshots, which destroy the one from 24 hours ago, except the

zfs? page faults
...a second 4-drive raidz pool. Please note that the drive with the os and the 5 "new" drives are connected to one of the 5300 controllers and the 7 drives to the other. However, when I try to move a very large file from the raidz pool to the new pool I get a reboot. I tried to run with kmdb and it shows me a page fault. The reboot occurs after a random number of Gb have been transferred to the new pool. I cannot say for sure that zfs is the culprit but it is central part in all fs operations. Also, note that I was able to create this big file through nfs (the raidz array is expor...

can Dtrace be used for the error injection?
Hi, is it somehow possible to use Dtrace for error injection in a kernel module? Something like changing: - function return value - value of a register If not, can it be implemented? I can do that via kmdb, but I need Dtrace for the time synchronization - chill() action. I can not combine Dtrace & kmdb: dtrace: failed to initialize dtrace: DTrace cannot be used when kernel debugger is active Thanks, Pavel

dtrace''ing at module unload time
Hi, I am trying to trace some functions that are executed at detach time, and it seems that just having dtrace around to instrument the module is causing a short circuit, whereas modunload will return (device busy). I understand that this makes sense, but how can I get around this if I want to trace stuff at detach time? Thanks, --S

Fujitsu Siemens PRIMERGY RX300
Hi all Opensolaris works perfectly, but I am not able to boot the xvm kernel on this hardware. I added the -k option in grub, but the system hangs before the hostname line without any debug info. I''ve tried snv from b94 to b99, with the same results. If I install Debian with xen kernel I am able to use pvm and hvm guests. What can I do ? thanks Giacomo -- This message posted from

virt-install and booting kernel
...<----- HANGS HERE To troubleshoot, is there a mechanism to pass boot flags to the Solaris kernel that is started in this new domain (for domain creation, not after it is created). We are trying to debug this kernel hang, so would like to pass in ''-k'' to boot into kmdb. If this is not possible, any other ideas for debugging a kernel hang in a domain? We have tried forcing a crash dump but unable to examine it with mdb. Thanks, Margot Hackett Miller This message posted from opensolaris.org

xvm + zones = panic (?)
i''m crossposting from the opensolaris help forum: i''ve just migrated some zones to newer hardware running b94, and find that after a while working with an hvm in xvm, the machine hangs/panics. if i leave xvm stuff alone, the machine is perfectly reliable. it''s x64, intel chipset/procs anybody else having these troubles - zones and xvm together causing hangs/panics?

Unfortunately, this doesn''t work: the kernel panics with Can not read the pool label from <device> spa_import_rootpool: Error 5 I''ve booted under kmdb, set a breakpoint in zfs`zfs_mountroot, and found that this happens because zfs_devid = spa_get_bootprop("diskdevid"); returns NULL. Dom0 issues: snv_79b and Tecra M9
Hi all, I have a Toshiba Tecra M9 and have not been able to boot it dom0. This is running SXDE 01/08, snv79b. After booting under kmdb and setting moddebug=80000000 before booting the Solaris kernel (with help from Dan Mick), I was able to see mac_ether as the last thing loading, right after loading the e1000g driver. I cannot drop into kmdb via F1-A after it hangs. I''ve also tried booting 32-bit, but had the same b...
