About using Dovecot indexes with Thunderbird/kmail
...running well on my Mandriva mail hub, handing out IMAP to the household LAN. This is 1.2.15. Eventually I'll upgrade the OS and get 2.x, but this is working fine. So this question is really about the mail readers I use and how they make use of Dovecot. I have Thunderbird on my laptop and KMail2 on my desktop. Dovecot indexes. GOOD! The trouble is that the mail readers want their own indexes :-( I wish that Thunderbird would NOT index mail on my laptop, but it does. I wish Kmail2 would not use nepomuk/akonadi to index the mail but it does. Why can't they both believe the ind...

Problem with dovecot-lda
...NT" as unread. Problem: 1. I would expect to have to mails coming in; one in my "SENT" folder because this is copy of the mail and another one which is the incoming folder because the mail was sent to me. But, there is no mail in the incoming folder. 2. If I use a mail client like kmail2 the same thing happens. The mail is distributed to the SENT folder but there's no copy in the incoming folder. 3. If I send a mail to my adress at @web.de with the postfix configuration from above I do not receive the mail at web.de. 4. If I send a mail to my adress at @web.de with a postfix...

It wasn't a problem for Kmail, before the disastrous conversion to Kmail2. It wasn't a problem with Claws-Mail (I'm leaving Claws for non-technical reasons). My experimentation with Alpine indicates that, at the single folder level, it's not a problem for Alpine: Alpine can view a huge folder within a couple seconds the first time, instantly from then on. My...

It wasn't a problem with Claws-Mail (I'm leaving Claws for > non-technical reasons). Let me clarify - I have no way of knowing if Thunderbird would choke due to the incredibly large number of folders. The number of emails is much less the problem. I have maybe 50 folders, and maybe 20...

...ied internet address or the LAN address. So I can use Claws to interact with my daily driver desktop anywhere I go. I'm extremely pleased with this setup. My IMAP tree is trivial to back up, and gives me the assurance that if Claws-Mail ever commits suicide the way Kmail did when they went to Kmail2, I can simply plug in a different IMAP enabled email client. Meanwhile, Claws gives me an extremely productive and easy to use user interface. With my client/server setup, I no longer need to copy all my email too and from the laptop when travelling. I'm going to present on my remote use of my...
