Stack dumps in use_block_rsv while rebalancing ("block rsv returned -28")
...;ENOSPC with mkdir and rename",
but now I have a device with 100GB unallocated on the "btrfs fi sh"
output, and when I run a rebalance of the form:
> btrfs filesystem balance start -dusage=50 -musage=10 "$mount"
I get more than 75 of such stack traces contaminating the klog. I've
put some of them up in a gist here:
https://gist.github.com/pwaller/1df8a7efc2f10343f2e3 and one of them
is reproduced below.
Is this harmful or expected? Are there any workarounds?
Thanks,
- Peter

BIC vz SBIC vz SIC
DeaRs,
I have a doubt about:
BIC (Bayesian Information Criterion)
SBIC (Schwartz Bayesian Informarion Criterion)
SIC (Schwartz Information Criterion)
In many references these are know as the same (eg. stepAIC() function) but I
just found a SAS8.2 output that show either the BIC and SIC values for a
logistic regression.. simillary values but different.
1) question: What are the differences?

Samba and AFS
I think I have come across what seems to be a bug in the interplay between
Samba and AFS. I'm running 1.9.16p11 on an IBM RS/6000 (AIX 4.1.5) with the
AFS support included (AFS 3.4a). The client machine is running Windows 95.
I've created an AFS area which is writeable (rlidwk) to an AFS protection
group. The group contains two AFS users, say user1 and user2. If user1
creates a file in

[Bug 717] AFS tokens are not generated upon login
...flags:
./configure --with-pam --with-xauth=/usr/openwin/bin/xauth --with-tcp-wrappers
--with-ssl-directory=/usr/local/ssl
users could log into their machines via OpenSSH, and through PAM, an AFS
token would be generated. After upgrading OpenSSH, tokens are no longer
generated, and users must run klog to authenticate to AFS.
Please contact me if you need more information. This issue has been
discussed at OpenAFS as well:
https://lists.openafs.org/pipermail/openafs-info/2003-September/010738.html
Thanks for your time and consideration,
Ian

Regarding an "earlier" variant of `pre-xfer exec` [feature request and proposed patch]
...Without going to in-depth,
OpenAFS introduces (in the kernel) a PAG (`Process Authentication
Group`) context, which allows the same user (or multiple users) to use
various credentials. Therefore each new `rsync` process will start
with a new PAG, and before accessing any files, one must call the
`klog` tool to authenticate. However as said above, one can`t use
`pre-xfer exec` because that executes after `chdir` which fails.

[XCP] Install to Flash Media
Well, now that I''ve figured out that network booting XCP is not really
going to be feasible, I''m moving on to my next option: flash media
installation. The systems that I purchased have SDHC slots on them, so
I figured I''d attempt to install XCP to one of these cards. I had
already read that there''s a minimum disk size in the installer

[PATCH v1 0/2] Support dropping of capabilities from early userspace.
This patchset applies to klibc mainline. As is it will probably collide
with Maximilian's recent patch to rename run-init to switch_root posted
last week.
To boot an untrusted environment with certain capabilities locked out,
we'd like to be able to drop the capabilities up front from early
userspace, before we actually transition onto the root volume.
This patchset implements this by

samba group rights problem (Domain Admins not working)
Hi list,
after upgrading our ldap server, the Domain Admins group doesn't work
anymore.
Members of the domain admins group don't have any special rights on the
workstations (for example, they cannot even change the date of a machine in
the
domain anymore).
When I lookup the group members I get:

...anum said he once recompiled ls to reboot if it is run
by root. Another trick involves recompiling /bin/sh to check to see if it
has a tty (shells spawned by network daemons will generally not).
Perhaps there is some way to locate any part of the kernel that performs
access control and optionally klog the details, so that any actions
which are denied also automatically detect possible intrusions?
Hmm, I should mention this to elad efrat, who is doing kauth work
on NetBSD...

OpenSSH, OpenAFS, Heimdal Kerberos and MIT Kerberos
...s the user.
OpenSSH could be built on systems that may or may not have AFS
installed and run on a system with or without AFS. The decision
is based on the existence of the executable and any options
in sshd_config.
In its simplest form, all that is needed is:
system("/usr/ssh/libexec/aklog -setpag")
This is a little over simplified as there should be a test if the
executable exists, processing of some return codes, making sure the
environment is set, setting some time limit. etc. But the point is
there is no compile dependence on OpenAFS, MIT or Hiemdal by the
OpenSSH sshd...

You got some 'splaininn to do Lucy ;-)
We just had a security application vendor come in. We asked about Linux
support and he said that putting a security application on top of an
insecure OS was useless. When I asked what he meant by insecure he replied
that Linux does not have a true Auditing capability - as opposed to HP-UX &
Solaris which they do support. Can anyone explain to me what he was talking
about?
Thanks,
Marty

...rk sort of fine.
- The problem I'm experiencing is that Samba doesn't seem to be keeping its
own tokens for the client session, it's using the ones that are currently
on the server. That is, I can only access files in AFS space through Samba
if an AFS user with access to those files is klogged onto my Samba server.
Essentially, it doesn't look like Samba is dealing with AFS authentication
at all.
Can anyone help me out with this? How do I force Samba to authenticate
using AFS, and keep track of separate tokens per separate session? I
haven't done anything fancy with the smb...

[klibc 00/31] klibc as a historyless patchset (updated and reorganized)
I have updated the klibc patchset based on feedback received. In
particular, the patchset has been reorganized so as not to break
git-bisect.
Additionally, this updates the patch base to 2.6.17-git12
(d38b69689c349f35502b92e20dafb30c62d49d63) and klibc 1.4.8; the main
difference on the klibc side is removal of obsolete code.
