kernel oplocks
I am a little bit confused about the kernel support for oplocks. man page of smb.conf: ---------------- For UNIXs that support kernel based oplocks (currently only IRIX but hopefully also Linux and FreeBSD soon) this parameter allows the use of them to be turned on or off. This parameter defaults to "On" on systems that have the support, and "off" on systems that don't.

Initial user password
...s there a way of setting an initial passwort like "test" and to force the user to change it after or while the first login? Perhaps it is a stupid question, but the man-pages don't say anything about something like this. So do not answer like rtfm ;-) Greeting from Cologne, Andre Klocke

Performance problem
We use some Samba servers running SuSE 7.1 and samba 2.2.1a. These servers are sometimes very slow while delivering data over the network. It is like a short sleep-mode followed by a wake up. We use Win 95, 98 and 98SE Clients. Any ideas? Thanks from germany, Andre Klocke -------------- next part -------------- HTML attachment scrubbed and removed

encfs on top of zfs
Dear ZFS-Users, I want to switch to ZFS, but still want to encrypt my data. Native Encryption for ZFS was added in "ZFS Pool Version Number 30<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZFS#Release_history>", but I''m using ZFS on FreeBSD with Version 28. My question is how would encfs (fuse encryption) affect zfs specific features like data Integrity and deduplication? Regards

Dovecot 1.0beta8 dovecot-auth consumes 100% CPU time on Solaris 10 amd64
Hello. I hope someone out there can help with this. It is getting pretty urgent. I am running a Solaris 10 server on Opteron (amd64) hardware and have compiled Dovecot 1.0beta8 from source. It has openssl compiled in (after much mucking around with various environment variables and modifying the Makefile), and was built with: $ ./configure --with-ldap --with-ssl-dir=/etc/ssl $ make # make

samba-3 problem joining ws to domain
Howdi, I can't add a w2k workstation to samba3 domain with my username. If I add my username to "admin users" list, then I can add the box to domain (but overritten by euid). My goal is, that joining domain can be done without using "admin users" option. Groupmapping is done and works. When machine is in domain and log in, I get full admin rights on that box. Removing the

A samba server runs normal. Then it begins to crash dos-Progs. The crashes get more ans more and worst. But after a stop, start of samba everything runs again and gets worst as above! Does the Server have to be restarted sometimes? It would be no problem, but I can not believe the behavior and the need of a restart!!!!!! Thanks for the help! Samba have wait-times
Hallo. Our Samba Server is used to provide a DOS program that uses the DOS database btrieve. Sometimes the opening and using of these programs is very slow. There seem to come no data from the server. The programm has very much files in one directory (ca. 50.000). Is this a problem? the opening of a program "sleeps" sometimes for 1 Minute. If we put the windows into the background and
