ps commandline option woes (-v weired formatting, more power for -m)
Two issues concerning ps commandline options.
1) -v option, cosmetic !
currently the formatting is very unsexy, makes this option
rather unusable, you can't easy follow the columns
2) -m option doesn't have precedence over other options
forcing the output to be memory sorted.
i.e. -u option implies -r (-r = sort by current cpu usage)
Now I find the output format of -u very

Short block test
Frank Klemm made the clip to test short block switching -
it's made of series of short periodical 'pulses', and this period
gets smaller as time passes.
You can get this file at:
http://www.uni-jena.de/~pfk/Short_Block_Test.wav.gz.gz (1.6MB)
(uncompress it twice with gzip)
I used oggenc beta3 & mp+ 1.7.8
Oggenc gave 160kbps using mode -b 256
mp+ gave 350kbps (using

Re: ogg123
I'm forwarding this on to the Vorbis users list because though it was
initially addressed to me it's not really a problem I can deal with
(though I give a few suggestions and discussion below anyway, of
questionable accuracy).
This was initially from a query to me about ogg123 WAV to stdout, but
upon reply I got this in addition to discussion about WAV outuput, so
I've cut this out

macOS performance issues
Hi,
I?m currently setting up a samba Server on a Raspberry PI 4 with an external 8TB HDD.
Since this is rather low end hardware, I?m trying to figure out which performance optimizations are still relevant today, since a lot has chanced in the past years and quite a few options are now set by default.
The default values seem to work well for Windows but I?m having lots of issues with macOS.

FLAC->mpc transcoding
Hi guys. First off, keep up the good work on FLAC: great now, and looks promising in the future :)
I wonder if anyone's aware of the issues with FLAC->mpc transcoding: it works under linux but not windows. Sorry if this has been bought up loads before - i couldn't see it here.
Here's the message mppenc 1.02 comes up with on trying to encode a .flac :

memory leak using sql server
I have a rails app running on windows 2003 server under apache, connecting
to a sql server databse on a different windows box.
Ive seen the memory go from about 30M at startup to about 130M at the end of
the day.
Ive used a modified form the object stats code from ( I think ) Robert
Klemme.
This seems to show that the
WIN32OLE object gets created often( and appear to not be getting cleared)
Ive trying to get some sample code to show this happening.
Im using Rails 1.0
Thanks
Paul

dlinfo() is missing in 5.0-REL
Hi,
In FreeBSD 5.0-REL the dlinfo() manpage is present but the function does
not
seem to be implemented, is there a good reason for this ?

Modification requests / question
Hello!
1.
You should modify the 'vorbis_ftoi(f)' for the undefinied OS/compiler
in the 'os.h' on this way:
old:
static int vorbis_ftoi(double f){
return (int)(f+.5);
}
new:
#define vorbis_ftoi(f) ((int)(f+.5f))
Because in some cases we don't use this function, and the compiler writes
many error messages.
2. Could you write a frequency and bitrate independent

Unfortunately, Debian overdid it quite a lot and also set a number of
not so smart (respectively security-critical) defaults:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=765632
So it's like 1:1 ;-)
Cheers,
Chris.
