HTB shaping & borrowing info
Hello to everybody,
We want integrate in a router/firewall (Debian Based, 2.6 Kernel), an HTB
shaper.
The goal is to divide the traffic for classes of workstations, at example in
three classes,
let say A, B and C.
Example:
A 70 Mb/s
B 20 Mb/s
C 10 Mb/s
If B don''t make traffic, 7/8 of 20Mb/s must be assigned to A and all the
rest at B
We have used CBQ and HTB, with poor succes.
Anybody

Relaying with Icecast - stand-by or active all the time?
You can set globally with the <relays-on-demand>1</relays-on-demand> in the
global <icecast/> section, or you can configure per-relay with <on-demand>.
You can find it in the sample config file. (Does not say much more.)

u32 and iptables do not work together
Hello all,
I am trying to make a filter into my QoS rules and I founded that
when I try to use filters u32 and with fwmark they do not work together.
This is the filter I use, just and example, for u32:
$TC filter add dev $DL parent 1:0 protocol ip prio 1 u32 match ip sport
22 0xffff flowid 1:10
This is working fine. Now if I try to mark a package that I want it

Scalability
Hello everyone,
I want an opinion from people who tryed different matching modules to
match diferent types of traffic, especially p2p ones.
I would like to hear which scales better as CPU usage and latency :
ipp2p, iptables-p2p or l7-filter with the p2p patterns. I want to use
one of them to block most of p2p (except maybe dc++ and emule which i
want to shape). I would use the matching rules in

userlevel should not need to know about HZ?
Kernel people tell me users should never need to know the value of HZ
used by the currently running kernel. One kernel hacker even told me
that Linus once changed the value from 100 to 1000 just to see user
space programs break.
However, it is needed for the buffer parameter in TBF. The tc-tbf(8)
manpage:
If your buffer is too small, packets may be dropped because more
tokens arrive per timer

HTB - prio and rate
Hi all,
I''ve not been able to find an explanation of the relationship between
prio and rate as they apply to the HTB technique. Hopefully someone on
here will be able to help me.
As I understand things, when prio values are assigned to an HTB setup,
classes with a given prio value will only be serviced when there are no
packets waiting in classes with a lower prio value.
Now, does

Borrowing between HTB classes not working as expectd.
I''m using a fairly large number of classes, andf borrowing is not
working as expected... I''ve called this setting it up on an IMQ device
with speed 1200/256 on a 1536/384 line. I''m then throwing a UDP data
transfer at it that gets tossed in one of the class under parent 1:6.
The classification is working fine, but when I try to ping out, ping
times are in the 900ms
