Yumdownloader on centos 4 does not add the functionality of the
yum --downloadonly feature in Centos 5 from the yum-downloadonly-1....

EDAC error
Hello,
I upgraded to CentOS 5.1 and everything went smoothly (Thanks for the
awesome work!). But after rebooting, I get the following error:
EDAC MC: Ver: 2.0.1 Nov 30 2007
EDAC e7xxx: error reporting device not found:vendor 8086 device

I found http://edacbugs.buttersideup.com/show_bug.cgi?id=21 with
google but no solution. Is it safe to ignore the error or remove

Control IO related to a process
Is there a way to nice the IO on a process such as dd?
If not, what could be a way to control the IO level of
such a process from bogging down a server to severely.
Thanks,

unverified files in 5.4
Hey, Gang!
To ensure that a file hasn't been corrupted or tampered with, you can
use rpm to verify the package it came from. Well, I found this:
rpm -Vv util-linux
....
........ /usr/bin/cal
S.?..... /usr/bin/chfn
........ /usr/bin/chrt
S.?..... /usr/bin/chsh
....
Does anyone else get this? And what would be the proper course of
action at this point?
Thanks mucho.

centos vault
We are in need of a remote mirror that provides rsync capabilities for
vaulted centos releases. Specifically centos 4.3 but we'll need 4.4
when it is vaulted too. Any helpful links to information on this or a
reputable mirror would be fantastic. Thanks.

where are debuginfo packages for CentOS 4.4?
I checked all the usual suspects without success.
Specifically, I'm looking for debuginfo packages for the updates kernels.

MooseFS repository
Hi,
A repository for MooseFS is just born. It provides CentOS 5.5 SRPMS,
i386 and x86_64.
cd /etc/yum.repos.d/; wget http://centos.kodros.fr/moosefs.repo ; yum
install mfs
Two points:
- DNS may not be up to date where you are. The subdomain has just been
created. Please be patient.
- I have made an update to the .spec file, to move config files to
/etc/mfs instead of /etc. I had no time to test

sysfs udev hald -_-
I tried creating a new partition on a disk.
After the partition table was written, I got a message about the kernel
still using the old partition table.
How do I get whatever system to register the new partition short of
rebooting the box?

xfs and centosplus kernel
I read that XFS has problems with 4K Stack size for Linux on 32-bit
systems. How did we address this in the centosplus kernel? Since what
release of CentOS was this problem resolved?
Is there a quick way to know what size the Linux stack is configured to be
in a system's that's running?
Thanks for your help.

Problem with rpmbuild
I want to be able to recompile php, so I downloaded the src dvd and did a
rpm -i php-4.3.9-3.15.src.rpm
After doing that I wanted to check to see if I can recompile it before
making changes. So, I went to the SPECS dir and did a
rpmbuild -i php.spec
It spent a lot of time doing the compile, but at the end there were errors.
What am I missing?

Memory reporting...
Hi,
I have a little question about memory usage...
When I do a free, I get:
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 18482800 18030668 452132 0 683068 9426792
-/+ buffers/cache: 7920808 10561992
But, when I do a ps, mysql is the only process that takes noticable memory; and it is far from 7.9GBs...

What is the port of Bandwidthd ?
Hi,
I am running Bandwidthd on CentOS 4.4. (http://bandwidthd.sourceforge.net)
Box running Bandwidthd network monitoring tool is behind a Firewall

Pls assume router is 1.2.3.5.
eth1 is for DMZ. Its ip is 192.168.100.3
eth2 is LAN . its ip is 192.168.101.254. Box running

Can't get XFS enabled on Centos 5.0
I anm trying to enable XFS with no success.
I followed the instructions provided in
http://wiki.centos.org/Repositories/CentOSPlus
I installed the new kernel.
Example: 2.6.18-8.1.14.el5.centos.plus
I also installed these packages as described in a post I found
yum install --enablerepo=centosplus xfsprogs xfsprogs-devel
lsmod shows nothing about XFS
I would image there are others out there

Kernel question(s): I/O handling
I have been chasing down the way the inode and page caches are
structured and handled, but there is a mystery I have not been able to
track down yet. How does the I/O queue that dirty inodes and pages are
put into when it's time to flush them out to disk get picked up? Also,
where are the sources for the I/O schedulers? I haven't been able to
locate them yet either.
I know this

Intel G33 Compatibility for Centos Server
Been running rock solid servers on Centos 3 and 4 for
years but equipment is starting to die so it is time.
I was thinking along the lines of an Intel Q6600 on an
Asus P5K-VM mobo with the new G33 chipset utilizing
SATA. Is anyone having success with this board or any
of the G33 chipsets where I am not going to run into
all kinds of install problems?

Logrotate in CentOS 5.4 more brutal (to httpd at least) than in 5.3?
I've just updated a few CentOS 5.3 servers to 5.4. One of them were a Apache Webserver. Doing a diff/check on the new ".rpmnew" config files that are made, I saw that the logrotate command for apache was changed. In 5.3 it did a reload, but in 5.4 it does a hard kill:

Re: [CSL #329283] centosplus XFS bug?
We're running a mix of ext3 and xfs file systems on CentOS 4
workstations at our site. We have benefitted greatly from the increased
performance and fast (crash recovery) reboot times that we get from
xfs. We're currently running CentOS kernel 2.6.9-42.0.8.EL and xfs
version 0.2-1.
We have one host where we've got issues. It's a (very) busy imap server
with external scsi hardware
