Netlogon from win9x using Kixtart to Samba server
Hi,
I would want Samba shares to be automatically mounted as logicals drives
on win9x machines.
For this i try to use KIXTART (http://www.kixtart.org), a logon script
processor for Windows.
The advantage is that a unique login script may be used for all the
users.
The shares need to be mounted accordingly to the unix groups the user
belongs to.
Fo example, if a user belongs to the IT and TOTO groups then the

Login scripts and Win9x clients
...the network drives
manually and tell them to reconnect at login, but I am wondering why they
don't execute them. I can log in, browse to my netlogon share (if I make it
browseable), and execute the script manually, and it works. Well, it mostly
works, but I Think that's an issue with Kixtart.
Is there something extra that I need to do for Win9x? I haven't really found
anything about it.
Thanks,
Misty

Pseudo-GPO Support for Samba
I have a bunch of W2K clients on my network and I want to be able to use
GPOs, but REFUSE to go the M$ route ;-)
Since GPOs are essentially registry entries, it might be somewhat easy
to implement a simple program that could give admins that fine-grain
control that is missing from NT4-style .pol files.
What I would like to propose is a simple Win32 executable that could
read from an

installing printer in a logon script
Hello,
I have Samba 3 PDC and win2k sp4 client.
I would like to install printer on a machine globally, for all users.
To do this, I use:
net use X: \\server\unattended /user:domain\unattended password
rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /q /y /ga /in /n \\server\HP2000C
First line is mounting share (Administrator is not logged to the
domain), and the second line is to install printer.

Creating Custom System Policy Templates
...Does anyone know if it would be worth-while to take the time and create an
updated Template to add policies to manage newer features of Windows
2000/XP through the NTConfig.POL file, or if it is even possible ?
Currently, if I have to adjust the machine's registries, I just push it out
with a Kixtart Script, which means that if I want to adjust any "User"
registry settings, the user has to be logged in when I run the script. I
think the System Policy Editor would be a better way to go, as long as you
keep in mind the "tatoo" effect on the registry.
Does anyone have any inf...

Schema Requests
It would be nice to have some additional attributes in the samba.schema.
I have several servers that all my users need to have mapped locations.
It would be nice if I could add drive letters and paths in ldap, but
there doesn't seem to be anything defined in the schema. This way when
I run the script to create the user all of the standard mappings are
created as well.

netlogin scripts
running debian 3.1 "sarge" ppc and samba 3.08
I want to have my win98se computer users to have their shares automatically mapped.
1. I have read that I would use a netlogin directory and put scripts in there?
2. Does anyone know if samba has to be set up a special way ADS, wins, etc...
to use the netlogin directory and it's scripts? "this server is the only smb

degraded performance under domain login load
...logged in at once the
performance of login was crippled to a near standstill!
As a test i swapped in the gentoo box and forced the upgrade to samba
3.0.21b (incase it was distro related) and to my surprise the same
problem occurred, a class will come into the computer lab all try to
login, kixtart will start do its login procedures and everything
would login at a snail pace, to the point kixtart will lockup and
generate errors!!!
As the next test, i swaped the fresh installed freebsd system back in
removed the latest samba from ports and manually installed samba
3.0.14 and the probl...

Home directories in samba 3.0.6
Hello all
Just in case anyone has similar problems:
We have a kixtart script which maps folders for users, I am not sure
where it happened, but I made a mistake with users home directories. A
couple of users were not copied from our old 2000 server during the move
to samba and so were created manually. This worked fine with
/homes/user, but since the upgrade to 3...

Is [netlogon] only applicable for Samba Domain Controllers? I like to
create use root preexec script to create home folders for first time
users. I'm currently running ADS mode, and using KiXtart logon script.
Would this work?

ntconfig.pol for samba3.5.6+openldap+Win7
Hi all,
All clients are Win 7.
How can I transmit rules defined in gpedit for users (for example
forbid execution of regedit) to the Default User roaming profile?
Is it done with a ntconfig.pol ? If yes, how can I make it ?
Thanks

The trick is to set "Load Balance" on the client (in Poledit or
in the Registry). This setting is found in Poledit under
Local Machine->Network->Update. Set Update to Automatic and
Load Balance on. Then have config.pol in the [netlogon] share,
readable by world.

Logon scripting for W95/98
All,
As some of have no doubt found out, scripting is subtly different on 95/98
machines and NT machines. I have a logon script called by:
logon script = xxxx\main.bat %G %U
that works great for NT boxen. However it does absolutely nothing, no
execution of main.bat at all for a W98 client. If I remove the parameters
so it is:
logon script = xxxx\main.bat
it executes on the W98 box,

Logon script change failure
I've got a bunch of servers which for a long time now have provided
domain logon scripts of the form %u.bat or %m.bat I've recently
created a more capable logon script in Kixtart and have changed smb.conf
to launch it for all users as just logon.bat So no more per-machine or
per-user scripts, everybody runs the same one, and inside it it does
per-machine and/or per-user things. At maybe 2/3rds of the sites this
works fine. For the others I'm getting errors in logs wher...

Folder Redirection with NT4 Domains
Hi,
I'd like to hear off-list from anyone who is currently successfully using
folder redirection with an NT4 domain controller.
If you are doing this, please would help me to understand your secret.
There are two ways I know of that should work, however I have received
feedback from separate sources that claim problems with both of these
methods.
I would like to include in the new book
