HP DL585 - CentOS4.5 - kix woes
Hi Well we are now using HP instead of Dell and have hit a major hurdle. We dont seem to be able to kix any of these boxes. I have been most recently trying on a dl585 and the issue appears to be that the kix kernel does not detect any nic. Its strange as the box can be installed using iso's and the nic appears as eth0: Broadcom NetXtreme II BCM5706 1000Base-T (A2) PCI-X 64-bit 100MHz found...

installing printer in a logon script
Hello, I have Samba 3 PDC and win2k sp4 client. I would like to install printer on a machine globally, for all users. To do this, I use: net use X: \\server\unattended /user:domain\unattended password rundll32 printui.dll,PrintUIEntry /q /y /ga /in /n \\server\HP2000C First line is mounting share (Administrator is not logged to the domain), and the second line is to install printer.

Win9x via Kix unable to get extended user attributes
...a as a logon server, I find that WinXP clients work fine but Win9X clients have some difficulties. The problem is that the Win9X logon script can't get user attributes beyond userid, such as group and full name data. This obviously creates problems for the logon script execution. We use kix for logon script purposes but I don't think that is relevant, as this problem did not occur with earlier Samba3 builds. I've read somewhere that Win9X uses RPC to acquire such data (whereas XP does it another way) but am not really sure of how to go about diagnosing what the problem is...

KIX script
Hi, We are testing AD migration and have come across an issue with login script. The current (pre-ad) login scripts is located in /home/samba/netlogon and the login script is KIX32.exe. Post the migration, we copied the contents of the /home/samba/netlogon to /var/lib/samba/sysvol/lin.group/scripts. When the users (both standard users and domain admins) login, the login script (KIX32) doesn't execute. We found the following: If we browse to the path //server5/netlogon...

Post 3.0.9 Win9X Domain Logon Problems
...the backend. XP and 9X logons work fine. On upgrading to newer versions (inc. 3.0.11, 3.0.14a and tried 3.0.20), in the same configuration, 9X logons stop working properly - they authenticate, but fail to get information such as groups and user's full name. XP still works fine. We use KIX for our logon scripts and I have observed that the new Samba gives a different result to the KIX test script than the old one. When running the KIX test script, our working build reports 'USER' privileges and has all the user details available. The non-working, newer samba reports ...

What group is CPB\unix_group.2147483404?
Hi, What's does a group like 'CPB\unix_group.2147483404' mean? I get al sorts of group when I run the following kix-script that are recognizable and some that are not. Why? running samba-2.2.3a with domainname CPB. ================ groups.kix ====================== $index = 0 DO $group = ENUMGROUP($index) ? $group $index = $index + 1 UNTIL Len($group) = 0 ================ results.txt ==============...

Yum question - RHEL4
Hi this is technically a RHEL4 question but i hope it can be answered here... Does RHEL4 do yum OK ? I kix a lot of boxes and it would be great to run the update after the build automajically rather than running through the up2date registration and using that method. I would also rather not pay lots for satellite server. If i setup my own RHEL repo can i use yum against this? Or any other thoughts/...

somewhat OT--windows logon script
Hi Group, We use a simple logon script to map drives for our users. If we put the following line: net use /delete * /yes then no drives are mapped on the workstations. If we rem it out, the script works fine. Full script below: net use /delete * /yes net use e: \\server5\peachtree net use w: \\server5\contract_maintenance net use t: \\server5\fleet net use x: \\server5\allusers net use u:

alternative to rocks cluster
Hi I am after a solution where i can easily kickstart many, read hundreds, of boxes in a short time frame. Perhaps the way i install software is to actually re-kix the box with a new software baseline - that type of idea. I have looked at rocks and it looks good but it seems a little rigid in that i need to be able to determine certain things like hostname etc as in our env hostname represents box location etc. Are there any tools out there that do things...

Errors related to Samba in httpd log!
...they are applied by a login script located within the netlogon share. Also, for a given user logging on, not all their mappings produce an entry in the httpd log. For example between the two I have separated out below, several other mappings will have been done. Attached is smb.conf and kix login script. You will see that although there is a share intranet (= /disk1/data/intranet), the login script does not use it. Some more info is below - please ask for anything else that might help. This seems weird to me and I haven't a clue where to start looking. Has anyone come...

Problem executing logon script - PLEASE HELP!
My Win95 clients are having intermittent problems running the logon script. I am running Samba 1.9.17alpha5 on DEC Unix 3.2G. In the client's log file (under logs/), I receive this message: Share violation on file (1,1,0,9375,kix/logon.bat) = 0 Now, I've tried the various options reaging locking, but the problems still persist. Relevant options from smb.conf: [global] logon script = kix\logon.bat domain logons = yes password level = 16 security = user strict locking = yes [netl...

Upgrade Novell 4.11 to Samba 3.0.7 wisdom needed
Has anybody done such a thing as this? I'm looking to make this transition as smooth as possible. I have the new fileserver up and running, and I'm using rsync to keep the Novell data current on the Samba server. Any words of advice on transferring the users and groups and permissions over to the new server in the least painful way possible? I have some idea that Novell uses LDAP

Help needed: strange issue with share mapping at logon
...Samba 3.0.26a-3-1478-SUSE-SL10.3 authenticating against OpenLDAP 2.3.37. Integration of Samba and OpenLDAP works, and importing the 2000+ existing user accounts from the old PDC (running OpenLDAP 2.0.x) also worked after some reformatting of the LDIF data. The domain logon script, logon.cmd, calls Kixtart to execute the script logon.kix, which maps different shares for each user depending on which groups they belong to, sets up email, and generally does all sorts of clever things. This script works...up to a point. This is where my problems begin. All logon scripts were directly copied across f...
