Kino exports in theora format
Kino, a non-linear video editor for Linux, now exports in ogg theora format. I just posted a feature request at http://kino.schirmacher.de/ for a future version of Kino to edit video in native ogg theora format in addition to dv format. John

Firewire on Centos-6 ???
...e (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments TSB43AB23 IEEE-1394a-2000 Controller (PHY/Link) the only mention of 1394 that I see in /etc/modprobe.d is this (grep output): dist.conf:install eth1394 /bin/true which, to the limited extent of my understanding shouldn't be a problem. I'm trying to use Kino. when I start it up and click the "capture" tab on the right I get a warning in the bar at the bottom of the Kino window that reads: WARNING: raw1394 kernel module not loaded or failure to read/write /dev/raw/1394! which makes sense since there ins't a /dev/raw/1394....

Firewire issues with CentOS/RH?
I read in another forum that CentOS has problems with Firewire drives, something along the lines of whenever a new kernel is booted, the drives are gone. Can anyone elaborate on that? I don't use Firewire drives (at all, yet), but information about this would be nice to have.... Thanks. mhr

Audio/video recording software
Hi everyone! :-) I am supposed to get (for the first time) into the world of making youtube clips. I have a webcam, a microphone and a big hard drive configured and ready. The question is: what would you suggest as an easy-to-use yum-installable app that could handle a couple of minutes/hours of recording? People who are about to use it are complete noobs, and I would like to give them a

...-GS9 for $250. I wanted a mini-DV because it is claimed that capturing video from the camcorder to a computer over a firewire cable results in an exact copy of the recorded video. That was not my experience. The video I captured to my computer over the firewire cable, using both MainActor and Kino, was not equal in quality to the video as it displayed on the camcorder's own LCD display, or on my TV when connected to the camcorder with the provided A/V cable. When I played the captured .dv format files, that were about 225 MBytes per minute, the video was noticeably jerkier, and stai...

DirectX/DirektShow/VfW confusion runnning wine
Is anybody out there who has ever tried to install any kind of DV-Codec running wine to process dv/avi files generated by Kino/Cinelerra (like using TMPEG for compression) and is interested in sharing experiences? I'm just asking before posting to the list... On my side, TMPEG/VirtualDub work like a charme for most formats, but i can't get the lil' bastard to open dv-stuff. Followups may be either private...

I know technically it's not correct... but that's what some are calling it.) ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Enric <enric.media@gmail.com> Date: Aug 19, 2007 10:13 AM Subject: [show-in-a-box] Re: Ogg To: show-in-a-box@googlegroups.com A

New around - some questions (Cortado, editing Theora)
Hello, I am maintaining different resources related to Ogg Theora, both as a user and as a contributor to several local advocacy groups. I had a couple of questions: - Who should I ask / talk to about financing improvements to the Cortado applet (namely: bigger / more visible controls for the seek functions) ? - Are there any simple Ogg Theora editing tools or applications, similar to avidemux

FireWire in CentOS 5.3
I am being given a digital camcorder. It uses Mini DV tapes and either connects via typical RCA cables (IE to a tv) or via FireWire. I don't have the brand on hand, but I was told it can be ripped to DV like any standard FireWire camcorder (I believe dvgrab will be sufficient). I just installed an older FireWire card I have that I used at one point in Fedora for my iPod. It was a PITA
