Changing IP Scope on a Samba DC
...nd the other > connect to the local lan. I personally do not think that is a good idea, we do not recommend using a DC as a fileserver, never mind using one as a gateway device. The more I hear about your setup, the more I think you should start again, this time using something like 'ad.kingschristian.org' (you appear to own 'kingschristian.org') for the AD domain, along with the '10.1' ip range. Your main problem would be the timing of all this, I don't know about you, but the start of September is the start of the new school year here in the UK. Rowland

Changing IP Scope on a Samba DC
OK.. after school ended today, I poked around and found nothing so I started all over again. Followed Louis' instructions at https://github.com/thctlo/samba4/blob/master/full-howto-Ubuntu18.04-samba-AD_DC.txt all the way through but at the end, the resolver is not working - and kinit cannot find a KDC (I'm guessing because the resolver is not working!) Replication error on newly joined DC
OK. I have been trying to add a DC. I've followed the instructions to build a DC that are on the Samba Wiki, ( https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Joining_a_Samba_DC_to_an_Existing_Active_Directory) bouncing around all the links to install and configure Bind9. I've built it on ubuntu 22.04 Jammy with the addition of the repos from Michael Tokarev. I've started Samba..... and it errors

I found the answer... I was missing a line from the Global section of smb.conf server services = s3fs, rpc, nbt, wrepl, ldap, cldap, kdc, drepl, winbindd, ntp_signd, kcc, dnsupdate On Sat, Mar 4, 2023 at 1:55?PM Peter Pollock < peter.pollock at kingschristian.org> wrote: > OK. DomainDnsZones bad magic
I built another server, but now I'm getting replication errors. Everything it's trying to replicate is the same, here's an example: CN=Schema,CN=Configuration,DC=internal,DC=kcs Default-First-Site-Name\DC02 via RPC DSA object GUID: 4d32cff5-39ac-4709-852f-ae558a62c097 Last attempt @ Sat Mar 4 20:36:58 2023 PST failed, result 2

Changing IP Scope on a Samba DC
Thanks Rowland. I'll try out those changes tonight. The two cards are necessary because I this is my gateway machine. One card connects to the internet router on 10.1.10.80 and the other connect to the local lan. <http://www.avg.com/email-signature?utm_medium=email&utm_source=link&utm_campaign=sig-email&utm_content=webmail> Virus-free. www.avg.com

Ubuntu 20.4 and whatever Samba it installs (sorry, I'm not in front of the server right now). Bind 9.16 (although there is no AD DNS Zone file for that version of Bind so I'm using the version 9.12 file (database "dlopen /usr/local/samba/lib/bind9/dlz_bind9_12.so") The provision did not go well. I'm not sure why. I'm learning though. slowly but, well, slowly. On Thu,

Samba AD not resolving external names
After reboot, the problem came back again. Server refuses to resolve external names without "nameserver 8.8.8.8" in resolv.conf and gives the same SERVFAIL message when doing nslookup On Sat, Sep 5, 2020 at 9:02 AM Philip Offermans via samba < samba at lists.samba.org> wrote: > I think it?s the cache. Logs full of FORMERR errors.
My sparkly-new DC's are throwing up error after error constantly. They seem to be having difficulty contacting the root servers, I think, but I'm not really sure what is going on but I'm assuming it's a Bind issue. Here are the errors. Can anyone help? Thank you! DomainDnsZones bad magic
Thank you Andrew and Roland. I appreciate it. I haven't built one for a few years. Last time I did so I used a walk through that I think Lois Van Belle wrote. Is that still available anywhere or is there another such walkthrough? How to fully remove entries to dead windows server
Thank you! I thought remove-other-dead-server was only for linux servers that had died. That did the trick though. It didn't, however, fix the weird replication reports, and I just noticed that the Outbound ones are also weird - in that they don't have any timestamps at all. DomainDnsZones bad magic
I've been called back to an old workplace to try to help with some issues that they have and have found that the DomainDnsZones database is not replicating. Everything else in the replication seems to be fine. I ran a samba-tool dbcheck on the affected server and it returns: ltdb: tdb(/var/lib/samba/private/sam.ldb.d/DC=DOMAINDNSZONES,DC=MYDOMAIN,DC=MYCOMPANY.ldb): tdb_rec_read bad magic

Your opinion: What's the best VM for Samba DC's
Hi all, I know this isn't strictly Samba related, but I have a fileserver and want to install some VM software on it so I can build a new Samba DC on there and still keep the fileserver running. In your experience, what's the best VM to install? Are there any which wok better or worse with Samba? Does it make any difference? I'm running Ubuntu 20.04.1 Thanks!

Changing IP Scope on a Samba DC
Thank you for your help Rowland. I have done as Andrew suggested with mixed success. The biggest problem I've found is that the internal DNS is seriously screwy. There are no zone files for the domain that I can find and no server suggests it's the master - yet when dc1 falls over they all fall down. I'm going to find somewhere else to seek assistance with that because it's a bind
