Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Configuration below.

Samba Server Specifications
Has anyone posted an up to date hardware review lately?
It seems clear that a RAID6 server with 300GB CHEETAH 15K.5 SAS drives will
trump a P3 with a 30GB IDE drive, however, not everyone will spend the money
required for the high end unit, I'm looking to build a new server & trying
to make best use of funds (aren't we all).
TIA

Does Samba/Winbind not follow nested groups in AD?!?
Here's the situation: We have users who are members of groups and those
groups are sometimes members of a 2nd level of groups. If a folder has
permissions assigned to a 2nd level group, then the user can not access
the share. Doing a "getent group | grep user | grep 2nd_level_group"
also returns nothing. Samba seems to not be recognizing that a user is
a member of a group under

Samba 3 and Windows 2003 Active Directory
Hi all,
Thanks is advance for any help you can offer -
I just inherited a Samba file server in my new position, and am familiar
with Samba, but no genius in it. The problem is that we need to upgrade
our Windows 2003 domain, and our Samba server - version 3.0.10-1.4E
won't connect to a Windows 2003 active directory. So, we have to leave a
Windows 2000 DC running to authenticate to it.

Home Directories on the fly?
Hello all,
I have a functional samba/windind file server (SLES 10) thats a member server of an Active Directory domain. I'm able to successfully resolve user and group accounts from AD. The problem I'm having is samba isn't creating home directories automatically when I try to map to a AD user share from Win XP. What I am able to do is, when I ssh into the machine with an AD user,

Problems with Samba and ACLs
Hello everybody, i have use samba (3.0) as a PDC in my company. The file
tree was growing so a had to use POSIX ACLs for the file permissions.
The problem is when a user creates a new file or modify an existing one,
the ACLs turn to a mess. For example, i have a dir where the users of a
group has only read permissions, on of them must have write permissions.
When this writer user creates a

hello
I'm having the following problem:
On a share I have a user with read-only access to word files. Another
user has read-write access to these files.
When the user with read-only access opens a word file and then the
user with read-write access to these files opens the file, the
read-write user has only read-only access.
If the read-write user opens the word file first, then he has

What's the deal with the archive bit?
...that have helped so far. I've learned a
tremendous amount about Samba in a very short period of time. I'm just
hoping desperately that this issue can be resolved. The alternative is
rather unpleasant to think about (i.e. replacing Samba with a
Windows-based file server).

Cannot connect to a windows network
Hello,
I am trying to use Samba to let me mount windows network drives on an
Ubuntu Dapper Server installation that I am using as a desktop.
Using:
testparm
my smb.conf seems to be ok.
Using
smbclient -L GM.local -U username -p
Gives me a full listing of all network drives, which again seems to be
good. So now I try this:
sudo mount -t smbfs -o username=username \//GM.local/DC4
