non parametric estimates of the hazard with right censored data
...non parametric estimates of the empirical hazard function for right censored data. I've tried many functions from different packages (muhaz, Design, survival, eha, event), but none of them gave me what I wanted. Am I missing something? Here's what I want. The data below is the same used by Kiefer (J. Economic Literature, 1988), which in turns use a subset of the data used by Kiefer (J. Econometrics, 1985) in his study of strikes duration. ## R dur = c( 7, 9, 13 ,14 ,26 ,29 ,52 ,80 ,9 ,37 ,41 ,49 ,52 ,80 ,3 ,17 ,19 ,28 ,72 ,80 ,80 ,80 ,80 ,80 ,80 ,15 ,61,80,2,25 ,80 ,3 ,10 ,1 ,2 ,2 ,3 ,3 ,...

Running R scripts with interactive-style evaluation
Hi, when running a R-script like this: enable_magic() compute_stuff() disable_magic() the whole script is parsed into a single expression and then evaluated, whereas when using the interactive shell after each line entered, a REPL loop happens. Is there a way to make a script evaluation behave like this, because I need a single REPL iteration for every expression in the script. It doesn't

Binomial distribution & Catherine Loader's paper
Hi, I've been trying, without success to find a copy of the paper, by Catherine Loader, that describes the algorithn underlying the rbinom() and associated functions. The title is "Fast and Accurate Computation of Binomial Probabilities." All of the links to the paper that I've seen (including in the R docs) lead nowhere (i.e. are 404). I've sent Dr. Loader several emails,

normality tests
Hello, does anyone know how to compute the following two normality tests using R: (1) the Kiefer-Salmon (1983) statistic, Economics Letters 11, p. 123-127 (2) the modified Shapiro-Wilk statistic? Thank you very much. Geoff [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

R: pp plot
hi all i would like to know if anyone has a reference on how one would place the "bands" on the pp plot. i want to test whether or not a certain data set comes from a particular distribution (not normal). i've already plotted F(X(j)) vs j/(n+1) where F(x) is the cum dist function, X(j) is the j'th order statistic and n is the sample size. a goole search gave arb references

Help: Maximum likelihood estimation
...ve the following distribution http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/file/n3006584/Screenshot-4.png hence, the probability density function is http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/file/n3006584/Screenshot-5.png and the likelihood function is http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/file/n3006584/Screenshot-6.png It used Kiefer's E-M algorithm to estimate the problem. To simplify, first assume lamda is known. I multiply the matrix in the probability density function, and write it in a non-matrix form, and use the function optim() to estimate the maximum. but I got non-sensible estimates of the parameters, and got 39 w...

No bootloader with D-I in domU on part. RAID1
Hello. I just tried (as my first attempt in xenning) to set up a lenny amd64 domU on a partitionable Mirror RAID (/dev/md_d0p1 - /dev/md_d0p4), using the Debian installer from "people.debian.org/~joeyh/d-i/images/daily/". The partitions of the md will be represented inside the domU as /dev/xvda1-4 accordingly. The dom0 seems to run fine, it''s Xen 3.2.1 on amd64 lenny. The

The original URL given in the R documentation "?dbinom" is: http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/ms/departments/sia/catherine/dbinom but this link is dead. Likewise, Marc Schwarz (in reply to Aries Arditi on Thu Dec 11 2003) gives http://kiefer.stat.cwru.edu/~catherine/pubs.html "There is a link to the paper (as a Postscript file) at the bottom of that page, however the link appears to be dead." I've just discovered that Catherine Loader seems to have cunningly encoded herself as "c at herine.net". So now...

PLM package PGGLS strange behavior
When using the PLM package (version 1.2-8), I encounter the probem that calling the FGLS estimator evokes strange behavior, when choosing the "random" effects model. After calling the PGGLS function to estimate FGLS, PLM gives me a warning, stating that the "random" model has been replaced with the "pooling" model. I would, however, really like to estimate the random
