ks.cfg exists. I *have* been successful with kickstart over http;
just can't seem to make it happen from the cd. Pointers appreciated,

If you mean other Yum repositories, you need to add them using the ?repo? syntax, as described here:

CentOS 4.x - Kickstart
Anyone point me in the direction of a good howto on kickstarting an 1850
or 2850 with the latest 4.x release - I presume one does not use a ks
floppy anymore as the kernel would be too big ?
thanks

disk duplication question
I have need to duplicate centos 6 on 133 computers.
I purchased a disk duplicator make my master and the duplicator does 11
at a time.
All is good so far...
When I take a duplicated disk and stick it in the "new" box which is
different than the
master machine of course all seems to work except the network.
So of course the MAC address for the NIC doesn't match so the network

I did try using the "clearpart --initlabel --all" approach (although
that appears to be removed from 6.4), but I get the prompt with that
as well.

Questions on making a kickstart cfg
...n it off my repo server and it almost worked.
Little things like not including things I had done on network setup. No
first boot.... :)
So now I am reading up on building a kickstart cfg
http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/KickStart
http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5.2/Installation_Guide/s1-kickstart2-howuse.html
So for starters I figured out that the lines prior to the %packages are
commands. So I added there:
firstboot --enable
Oh, but this won't work if firstboot is not installed. I am tempted to
assume it will be, as it was from all the packages that got installed in
the installa...

three methods are officially supported in the centos5.6.
As indicated in the centos5.6 website, we can see they not only

Kickstart problem.
I am trying to use kickstart for automated builds from a DVD. Some of
the machines have DVD's drives and some have CDRom drives only. With the
CDRom only machines I would like to plug in an external DVD drive via
USB and use this to kickstart.
The DVD only machines work correctly with a isolinux.cfg as

custom cd's
I'm looking for a script or some tool that enables me to create custom
iso's for centos 4.3
I'l also need tools to build some custom rpm's.
What i want to do is create a cd that will install centos 4.3 fully
updated (at the time of cd creation) together with self created rpm's of
ispconfig.

Kickstart is my friend
I just had to change the install command to use ftp.
I had to uncomment all of the drive partitioning commands. At first
I was confused as to the partitioning failure, then figured out that
the partitioning commands were commented out. Most likely to prevent
an unwanted disk clearing.
Only things:
Did stop at the bootup to create a user id. Not a big deal in this
case, as I was logging

disable virtual terminals during kickstart installation
Hi All,
I'm trying to figure out where the inittab is for a pxeboot/kickstart
installation so that I can disable virtual terminals that allow for
interactive input such as CTRL+ALT+F2. I've looked in the /etc
directories for the pxeboot initrd as well as the stage2 and minstg2
files. Am I missing something grossly obvious here?

more kickstart - saving %pre decisions for %post
Hey again folks,
How can I save answers to questions in %pre, for use in %post?
I'm assuming (though have not yet tried) that variables won't live that long.
Could I save them off to /tmp in a file, and retrieve them?
e.g.
%pre
echo "VARNAME=$VARNAME" >> /tmp/varfile
%post
grep ^VARNAME= /tmp/varile
Or some such ...

How to simulate minimal ISO install using stage2 image file?
Hello,
I'm working on a project which automates creation of EC2 AMI images.
To do this, you must use a running EC2 instance to mount an image file
in a chroot jail.
My problem is that I want to create an AMI that looks exactly like a
minimal (nothing selected) install from the CentOS ISO image, but the
"stage2" image [1] file is much more "minimal" than that. e.g., it
