OBresearch: searching the dovecot mailing list, I found one *extremely* relevant thread called "Re: [Dovecot] started with dovecot sieve <http://dovecot.markmail.org/message/kgd34wberxuvmrsa?q=setegid>", but there didn't seem to be a solution contained in the thread.
