Keytab extraction for tshark analyze
Hi, i'm trying to analyze kerberos traffic using tshark (Samba 4.8.1 on Centos 7). I can't figure out how to extract keytab with password/keys. I follow precisely the instructions at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Keytab_Extraction But it seems like I only get slot, kvno and principal, can't find a way to get passwords or keys. Any idea someone ? ktutil: rkt decode.keytab ktutil: l slot KVNO Principal ---- ---- --------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 1 Administrator at WO...

retrieve machine password in current Samba?
...8C\EA\A8\AD\EF\B8\9E\EE\BC\85\E6\AD\A1\E7\92\9D\E3\AC\9F\D9\BD\E6\BB\B1\EA\AE\AD\E3\BC\AB\CF\92\E2\8A\8D\E6\AE\8C\00 This second "password" isn't usable by wicd. The Samba wiki still refers to getting the current machine password from secrets.tdb: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Keytab_Extraction That wiki link is about generating keytabs but the process used to retrieve the password is just like the one I was using. Is there a currently supported method for retrieving the machine password in a form that's usable by external scripts such as wicd? Thanks! James

Generating keytab on a read-only file system
Hai, First, I suggest read : https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Keytab_Extraction Second, it his for a member or AD-DC? Thats because of the location of the keytab and the ad-dc creates its own keytab file. Thirth, are any other services going to use it? Last, root must be able to write the keytab file. If you place the keytab in an other non-default location like : With :...

Advantage of 'kerberos method = secrets and keytab' over 'kerberos method = system keytab'
A question regarding the “kerberos method” configuration option in smb.conf: Are there any practical differences between using ’secrets and keytab’ and ’system keytab’? I’ve been running Samba servers using both methods for a long time and both seems to work more or less fine, but since we’re having this “login hickup at 10 hour service ticket expiration problem” I’m trying to find out if this

Debian 9.8 and vanbelle-repos
Stefan, If everythig works now. Then keep it as is. Most probly it was the firewall that caused the problem. @Rowland, good point. Im everytime amazed with all the commands you know.. :-) And SID: S-1-5-21domain-513 = domain users. These are "Samba Sids" S-1-22-[1-2] 1 useres 2 groups And thats corect with wbinfo -g 10513 shows all groups. Greetz, Louis >
