loop start vs. kewl start for T1 interface
Is there a doc somewhere that explains when to use loop start vs. kewl start in certain situations? I've seen in a lot of posts that most people just say 'use kewl start', but nobody really explains why. It seems that if kewl start should be used 100% of the time then why is there even an option for loop start? After some research, it seems like there a...

Voicemail and Zapatel
My PSTN line doesn't allways hang up properly after it goes to voicemail. The problem occurs when a caller hangs up during the initial greeting. Even though the hangup accured, voicemail continues to record, usually a fast busy and/or a teleco generated "please hangup now" message. After the voicemail.conf 'maxmessage=180' expires the line simply stays offhook. The hardware

winbind and getent - fix ...
Greetings ... Sorry for cross posting, but I have seen this problem on both lists ... Okay, I am not sure if this is a problem only on RedHat using the rpm, because I tried only with rpm installations ... Install Samba3 from rom on RedHat 9. Configure and join domain, kewl. Test winbind with wbinfo -u and -g, also kewl, but no answer from getent passwd ... put in winbind in nsswitch.conf in the right places. Finally found that the rpm was not installing/creating the sym-link in /lib from libnss_winbind.so to libnss_winbind.so.2 ... after this, I was able to...

Syntax for address range
I would like to add a rule allowing only the address 192.168.150.20 and the range of addresses from 192.169.150.100 to 192.168.150.150 in zone dmz0 to connect to two terminal servers in the local zone. Is there a syntax that can specify a range of addresses in the rules file? Do I have to enter each one separately? -- Stephen Carville Unix and Network Adminstrator DPSI 6033 W.Century Blvd.

Groups in *
...also wants queue messages in all groups and the possibility for the phones to log in and out of the different groups (in the morning one phone should be member of three groups, and after lunch log out of those groups and log on to another group ...) I think some kind of web-frontend would be quite kewl, so each employee could log on to a webpage and mark which groups he will answer on (I don't know how * keeps track of such things?) We have tried with PBX's like Panasonic TDA, Ericsson BusinessPhone, Avaya INDeX, Avaya IPOffice and Siemens and none of those can do this ... Thanks for an...

Which is the best signalling for FXS
Hi All, Which is the best signalling to use when connecting an FXS inteface on a TDM400 to a standard telephone. I see that all examples use fxo_ks, but it is my understanding that kewl start is really designed for connections to the CO so that hangup etc. can be detected. So does it make any sense to configure a telephone for fxo_ks? Or should it be configured for fxo_ls? Regards Garry Taylor

Interface * with ATA from ATA FXS port?
...ave service with a company that does not allow for a BYOD plan. They will not give out credential or server info either. Is it possible to run the FXS port of the ATA to an FXO port in *? The service I have is throug Broadvox Direct using the Mediatrix 2102. I have tried this using loop start and kewl start. The * box sees the incoming ring, picks up and starts my dial plan. But the Mediatrix never recognizes that the * box has picked up and continues to ring and then goes on to voicemail. I am beginning to think that this is not possible. Guess maybe I should have found another provider. I hav...

Need help: X100P connection/configuration in GERMANY
hi i need help in connecting a X100P-clone in germany. Basic questions: a)what configuration do I need ? what is the difference (maybe explain in german? via email?) fxs_ls: FXS (Loop Start) fxs_gs: FXS (Ground Start) fxs_ks: FXS (Kewl Start) b) can I use one card for connecting to the telephone network (in this case my analog pbx) and the same card for connecting an analog phone (the card has two connectors with "line" and "telephone" signs). I want to connect the asterisk pbx to my analog pbx and wan...

C7, firewalld and rich rules
...pecific network, and nobody else, and allow only certain services through. What I've been trying to find is a script/program that converts the output of iptables-save to something I can feed to firewall-cmd. Anyone have a link to such? I admit this is annoying. Why is it, when some New Kewl thing is introduced, it *always* expects you to start anew, rather than giving you a tool to convert what you had. I ran into this 15 years ago, trying to put an existing website into bricolage (early CMS), and here I am, trying to do this. Anyway, any links would be appreciated. mark

Would this be true for the rest of the numbers? So if someone knows the max numbers for each of these and so on that would be kewl. Another is the prio with the filters I''m not sure how the prio works. Could someone give me an example out the prio might be used in filtering? One more the divisor option currenlty seems to have a max of 256. Are their any plans to change this? or is that a bad idea? Thank you for y...

SOLVED: Hung Zap channels connected to old key system
...up. They have to time out. I set up MeetMe, but all Zap channels hung forever. Very annoying. Same thing for FXO-to-FXO bridges. I figured out today why and fixed it. Some proprietary voicemail systems (and probably tie-lines, too) like to use DTMF tones instead of standard ground/loop/kewl whatever signaling. Our key system was programmed to use such DTMF tones instead of the usual analog signaling on those ports. (I think it was program 31 on our Toshiba DK40i) Asterisk of course ignored those, but the other systems used those for line signaling (including our previous 3rd...

ICES with MP3Pro?
Greg, Yes, I have noticed that new codec.. AACPlus. Its really impressive in it's abilities, and it's sound quality. I tried to open it up with Windows Media Player and my Flash Player.. didn't seem to like it very much. While It's really kewl as a codec, and it has great support with a couple players, and limited support for the rest, I'll stick with the mainstream for now, which is MP3Pro. Once AACPlus works in a new and stable version of SAM, I might even consider upgrading to it. But for now, I'd hate to halt progress while...

SAMBA slower than MARSNWE...
I actually find Samba a very kewl server app so the subject isn't coming from someone that has a preference for Netware over samba. My issue is actually two-fold, one being the record locking problems in Samba and the other being the slowness of dos apps in samba. I'm not going to post any log messages here as I don&...
