Is binary firmware still necessary for GTX660 card (NVE0 family) in order to use DRM and/or VDPAU video acceleration?
Hi Martin, if you refer to my kernel version. 3.10.17 is the latest, stable version in the official gentoo repository for the amd64 architeture. See here [4] https://packages.gentoo.org/package/sys-kernel/gentoo-sources?full_cat As long as I do not miss any features, I stay with the stable version. Hence, if I understand you correctly, there are kernel version (newer than some unknown point in

NvClkMode and NvMemExec Options
.../0/pstate (in hex). > > What are the valid options for NvMemExec? 1 and 0 (or true and false). It force-enables/disables the actual execution of the memory clocking script. I'd recommend against touching it. This and more information is available at https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/KernelModuleParameters/ Based on the little information you provided, I doubt your hangs have much to do with the performance level. (Unless you meant to say "When using the nvidia driver ... ".) Cheers, -ilia

NvClkMode and NvMemExec Options
When using the nouveau driver, my screen freezes (and stays frozen) when it starts to more than a minimum amount of work. To fix this, I've been using the nvidia driver with the Preferred Mode set to Prefer Maximum Performance. It looks like equivalent settings in nouveau are NvClkMode and NvMemExec. However, I didn't see any documentation specifying the valid options for these

GeForce 8400 GS
Hi everyone. I read on a 2011 article - http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=nouveau_comp_2011&num=19 - that my particular card, GeForce 8400 GS, overheats with nouveau. (So, I never tried using if for long, before, as soon as possible, installing the proprietary drivers...) But, because it's a 2-year-old article, I was wondering if that problem could have been, in the

PA-RISC (hppa) video cards init failure loading the device driver kernel module
Dear Ilia, this page summarize all the possible options of the "nouveau" kernel module: https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/KernelModuleParameters/ I will test the options that you have suggested as soon as possible. Try a PCI video card is a very good advice because the AGP/FX1(chipset) is on the top of the "usual suspects" list; unfortunately the c8000 has 3.3 PCI slots and all the (very old) PCI video cards in my hands have 5V...

[Bug 77371] New: [NVA3] gpu lockup unless noaccel=1
...are needed. The Nouveau driver generates the ctxprogs and related state internally (commits 48c6dfb8 and 266229a5)." With firmware in /lib/firmware/nouveau, I've tried with and without `nouveau.config=NvGrUseFW=1`, though per the Kernel Parameters page (http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/KernelModuleParameters/), this only seems relevant for NVC0. --- Per bug 69488, I tried with `nouveau.rumpm=0` and still get the lockup, not to mention that report suggests this is fixed in 3.13, and I'm on 3.14 -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. -------------- next part ----...

[RFC] Documentation: nouveau: Introduce some nouveau documentation
Other gpu drivers have some driver-specific documentation, so it would nice if nouveau did as well. This adds a bare-bones ReStructured Text document with sections for module parameter documentation, an overview of the driver architecture, a section for internal API documentation, and a glossary for nouveau-specific terms. To make the document a little less bare, I've included docblocks for

PA-RISC (hppa) video cards init failure loading the device driver kernel module
Dear "nouveau" developers, I know that many very competent guys have already spent a lot of time and efforts on this issue without success. I have started to play with "hppa" two weeks ago and, with the support of the linux-parisc mailing list people, now I have a - almost fully - working workstation (hp c8000). Everythings work perfectly BUT the video card. No matter the
