Sso the Linux way?
So I was googling around about this over the last week and here is what I found: nis/yp is for some reason bad. Kerbos is holy, but no how-to's that don't involve windows and active directory. What is the recommended sso approach for centos? Where are there examples / docs to follow? Jason -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- -...

Issues with Solaris 9, and ADS
I have been working with this for a little over a month now, and here's where we are at: We have 3 domains, 2 of them are sending SIDs to the Solaris box, and Kerbos is compiled and working (we can authenticate to any of the 3 domains), we can get user IDs from any of the 3 domains, however none of the users can gain access to the share unless we give them a Unix account. Samba was compiled with ADS support, and the make file shows that krb5 and ADS are bot...

CentOS 5.3 samba: getent does not return data from the active directory (ads)
CentOS 5.3 getent does not return data from the active directory (ads) I have installed and configured kerberos and samba so that the server can be a member of an existing Active Directory (AD). Correct configuration of kerbos was verified using kinit and klist. The samba configuration was verified by using "smbclient -k -L server". winbind was verified by using "wbinfo -g". The problem seems to be nsswitch accessing winbindd to get group information via the "getent group" command. I add...

samba and RODC
...A (centos 6.2) It exists in my DMZ so very limited access to thing. Juts mainly DNS and some ports for RODC Sever B (W2k8r2) RODC, exists in my insecure vlan, stepping stone into the DMZ (dmz-inside) My Windows box work fine talking to the RODC When I try wbinfo -u it fails. I have opened up the kerbos and the ldap ports for a -> b. I drop the old still netbios, but I do allow port 445 tcp The wbinfo -u waits a long time then fails Note xyz.com is not the real domain :) My smb.conf [global] #--authconfig--start-line-- # Generated by authconfig on 2012/11/28 10:16:49 # DO NOT EDIT THIS SE...

Joining Samba 3.0.2 vanilla to ADS
I've been looking at several posts for weeks now and finally concluded through testing how to install Samba 3.X into the Windows Active Directory environment. I was completely under the impression that you needed to load Kerbos/ LDAP and a bunch of other stuff. In our case our ADS is running in native mode and I was able to join the domain quite easily. I've tested authentications and mapping drives .. and it seems to work correctly.. I'm still trying to to get the winbindd working .. but hopefully I can get the...

Client drops off Active Directory when DC changes its IP
...p://hostname, but I can still ssh into it from another linux box via host. Apparently this is common, but I can't get the client to respond to that and auto correct itself. I have to manually fix this by: Having IT remove the DNS entry from the DC stopping smbd, nmbd and winbindd getting a new kerbos ticket with an admin account restarting smbd, nmbd and windbindd joining the domain with an admin account restarting httpd This works, but being a webserver, i need it to be self sustained. I'm pretty sure samba does this, I just don't know how. I found samba_dnsupdate, but i can't ge...
