KerbNet!
I want to thank whoever mentioned KerbNet by Cygnus Solutions! Wowza!
I recommend that people check it out. It lets you implement Kerberos
under UNIX and NT, and have them work together (so you have one *unified*
security system that is used by both your NT and UNIX boxes).

password sync in 1.9.18p4
I had given NIS access to the Windows NT domain users via Samba
1.9.18p3. The Samba gateway worked great when the users on the NT domain
had the same username & password on both the NT PDC as well as the NIS.
I have now set up Samba 1.9.18.p4 with server security & password sync
turned on. The server specified is my NT PDC. Users get full access to
the NIS & the NT with single logon

Luke or Brendon should be considered (both of them suggest using NT's
own SAM database as queried via SMB in place of authentication native
to UNIX). As even your organization considers Kerberos to be a good
solution it should be given considerable thought; especially in light
of the Kerbnet source being made available Cygnus Solutions

restrictions may preclude its use in Portugal.
The thing to keep in mind in password syncronization is that UNIX passwords

UNIX -> WinNT Username/Password Synchronization Revisited!
...DU), which actually offers this functionality, but we are yet to
see our copy! Are there any other similar products out there...???
All advise much appreciated! (NB: We do not want to implement NIS or NIS+,
so GINA and NISGINA are not viable solutions. As we are located in
Australia, we cannot use Kerbnet (due to the lunacy of US export laws)!
Also, we are exceedingly hesitant to allow WinNT to validate UNIX logons
using PAM. And as we need a solution before the start of first semester
(March 1998), we cannot wait for the SAMBA PDC functionality or the promise
of WinNT v5.0 supporting Kerberos authe...

...nf (with "files" "nis" ..) and there is "ypldapd" as
another approach
(almost ready ;))
should be relatively easy to do something like that on NT domain controlers.
i'm not
sure if there is something at the moment?
there is another thing that can do the job: "KerbNet" from www.cygnus.com.
this used
to be a commercial product but it was converted into a freeware a few months
ago.
i personally believe that LDAP solution is the right approach since it
addresses many
other systems administration related issues.

/etc/passwd - Domain Controller Synchronization
Hello,
I don't know much about Samba so forgive me if this is a stupid question.
I'm currently working on a project for a client that relies on Unix machines
for their main applications. Access to Unix applications is done through
terminal emulation (vt 100) on Windows PCs.
We are implementing a Windows NT network for file an print sharing and to
support SMS. One of the goals of the
