help! kennard-stone algorithm in soil.spec packages does not work for my dataset!!!
http://r.789695.n4.nabble.com/file/n3031344/RSV.Rdata RSV.Rdata
I want to split my dataset to training set and test set using
kennard-stone(KS) algorithm, it is lucky there is R packages soil.spec to
implement it.
but when I used it to my dataset, it does not work, who can help me, how
reasons is it, below, it is my code, and my data in the attachment.

Help me make faster R code for Kennard-Stone algorithm [My code is so slow from Matlab]
Hi all,
Can you help me change my Kennard-Stone algorithm to faster one?
[The original code can run fast in matlab, but when I change matlab code to
R code, it is so slow.]
Since my code so crude and too many loops (changed from matlab code), it is
too slow. I hope that you can help to improve the performance.
Thanks.

app_sms - rocks!
Ok,
I just thought I'd publicly pat Adrian Kennard (revk) on the back for this application. This is an excellent contribution and gets my vote for app of the year.
For those that aren't aware app_sms allows you to send/receive fixed line sms messages from asterisk. ( you can take a look at a quick page showing this http://www.automated.it/aste...

Asterisk and VoDSL
...ssary.
Connecting Nagios to the same system, could also send sms, if something
on our servers goes wrong.
I also want the system to be able, that of course more than one caller
can be handled at the same time.
I know that Asterisk can handel this, but does "sms via fixed line" by
Adrian Kennard work, using VoDSL??
And what other hardware do I need (except for the server with digium
cards) to get this idea running??
As externals I'm planning to use 1 analog phone and maybe 2 headstets
for each of us if we are in office.
thx, Sascha

R: ridge regression
hi all
a technical question for those bright statisticians.
my question involves ridge regression.
definition:
n=sample size of a data set
X is the matrix of data with , say p variables
Y is the y matrix i.e the response variable
Z(i,j) = ( X(i,j)- xbar(j) / [ (n-1)^0.5* std(x(j))]
Y_new(i)=( Y(i)- ybar(j) ) / [ (n-1)^0.5* std(Y(i))] (note that i have
scaled the Y matrix as well)

problems with method ken.sto in package soil.spec: subscript out of bounds
Hi All,
I would like to use Kennard-Stone algorithm for splitting a dataset.

"))
> library("soil.spec")
> ken.sto(mydata,per.n=0.3)

Vectorization of three embedded loops
Dear R-programmer,
I wrote an adapted implementation of the Kennard-Stone algorithm for
sample selection of multivariate data (R 2.7.1 under MacBook Pro,
Processor 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 2 GB 667 MHZ DDR2 SDRAM).
I used for the heart of the script three embedded loops. This makes it
especially for huge datasets very slow. For a datamatrix of 1853*18...

applying summary() to an object created with ols()
Hello R-list,
I am trying to calculate a ridge regression using first the *lm.ridge()*
function from the MASS package and then applying the obtained Hoerl
Kennard Baldwin (HKB) estimator as a penalty scalar to the *ols()*
function provided by Frank Harrell in his Design package.
It looks like this:
> rrk1<-lm.ridge(lnbcpc ~ lntex + lnbeerp + lnwinep + lntemp + pop,
subset(aa, Jahr>=1957 & Jahr<=1966))
> f <- ols(lnbcpc ~ lntex + lnb...

Rsync fail repeatedly on the same files.
Hello,
I?m trying to rsync Windows 2000 to Linux. It fail on the same file every
in every try.
If I delete from the source the problematic file, then it fail again after
a while on other file. The file size vary etc.
I install rsync on other Linux for test, and there was no problem to rsync
the entire directory
to this new destination.
The error message on the client site is some

Hi,
Can anyone point me at a url where i can learn to:
1. display the name of the ogg stream in the winamp window (is this to do
with the oddcast config or with the .pls file?)
2. show a url automatically in the winamp minibrowser when the ogg stream
plays

CRAN (and crantastic) updates this week
...Thomas Terhoeven-Urselmans
http://crantastic.org/packages/soil-spec
This package combines existing R functions with new code for soil
spectral analysis. The result is an easy to use tool for (i)
importing of spc-files, (ii) principal component analysis, (iii)
sample selection using the Kennard-Stone algorithm, (iv) spectral
transformation and (v) comparison of regression methods.

Bug - just subscriibed
I subscribed to report a bug.
if I rsync a directory from a PC (invoked on the PC) to a unix server

copys at least one file then all is OK.

cannot list contents of share: kernel: smb_proc_readdir_long: error=-2, breaking
Dear All,
We've been running samba successfully in our environment for some months.
Last week we noticed that the list command when
run from any of our linux hosts against a share on a windows host no longer
works.
The specifics.
Windows 2000 domain with ddns, dhcp etc all fully operational.
Windows 2000 sp4 file server
Fedora Core 2 Linux hosts with samba 3.0.10
The Fedora hosts have a
