ACL behavior
...ith everyone in it, and use nss_ldap to resolve users and UID numbers. We're authenticating
against a Windows 2000 cluster though.
When I set an ACL from Linux via the setfacl command, the ACL shows properly in the Windows "security" box. It shows up as (for example) "lnxsles8/kehall" with the right permissions (lnxsles8 being
the Samba server). But if I try to ADD an ACL, it can only find users from the domain directory. Since all of the users are in the domain, I can assign permission using the corresponding ID from the
cluster ("NYC1/kehall", for example),...

getent not working correctly
Hello again!
Ok, I've gotten wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g working great
Now I try to run getent passwd and getent group I get my local users/groups but not the ones on the Windows 2k Server Domain Controller and it just hangs after listing the local ones.
I also tried authenticating a user and it worked I'm assuming
wbinfo -a DOMAIN+ingless@DOMAIN%"password" (The usernames here

FreeBSD 4.5, Samba 2.2.4_1, W2K client "printer prope rties cannot be displayed"
I've experienced something like this, as well. Though I don't know if this
will help, I would make sure that your NT username(s) are appropriately
mapped to unix users. You may not be able to view the properties because
the permissions/mapped user are mixed up. You can check this by doing a
smbstatus - the user names listed as connected are the unix usernames that
have been mapped to.

Performance (?) problem with Samba and NT
I've seen this question asked on the list, but never answered. I've tried
searching the archives, etc., but don't find anything relevant.
I have a network with several Win95 and 98 client machines and one NT4
machine (NT Workstation, not Server). It's currently using Novell, but I've
been testing a Samba server as a replacement. The 95 and 98 clients work
fine. When I

samba 2.2.6pre2 make fails
When I compile Samba, this is on SuSE 7.2, I keep getting a make failure,
but it still completes to a prompt. Should I ignore or does anyone have a
"fix"?
When I configure, I use these options:
./configure --enable-cups --with-smbwrapper --with-automount
--with-smbmount --with-pam --with-pam_smbpass --with-winbind
--with-winbind-auth-challenge
When I run make, this is the error,

Creating user home directories with domain login
Hello,
I've got Samba set up for domain logins and use
winbind as well. What I'm wondering is if it's
possible for the home directory to be automatically
created when the user logs in if it doesn't already
exist? If not, anyone have a relatively easy way to
do this, in addition to giving the proper owner and
group?
Thanks,
Scott

Security Concern with Samba server on the Internet
I'm in the process of converting from a dedicated file/print server to a
Linux box running Samba. Among other things, this box currently supports
our Internet gateway via IP Masquerade. It uses demand dial (diald) at the
moment, but will probably be converted to a full-time connection at some
point in the near future.
I've been asked if it is possible for the Samba server to be accessed

Windows NT Network Client problem
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but since I only have
Samba servers on my network I'll toss it out and see if anyone knows
anything about it.
I was originally testing a network configuration that was going to contain
an NT PDC, but have since decided to go with a Samba server using workgroups
for the time being. Samba is up and running and the Windows 95 and 98

Sudden performance problem
In preparation for upgrading my LAN 10 100base/T, I replaced the NE2000 card
in my Linux box with a Realtek 10/100 PCI card. It wasn't my first choice,
but there was a problem with the other card so I fell back to what I had on
hand.
It seems to work fine with everything but Samba. Suddenly the performance
of that part of the server is abysmal. At one point I thought the server

Problems building Samba on SuSE Linux 8
I've been having problems building Samba on SuSE 8 (S390), and I've made some progress figuring out why.
The error is "Redefinition of structure statfs" during compile of smbd/server.c.
There are two statfs.h include files on my system: One in /usr/include/sys, and another in /usr/include/asm-s390, and they're different. The Samba include.h file includes the one from sys,

Winbind issue - Again
I've sent this before, but no response. Trying again.
I'm trying to configure Winbindd on a Linux/390 system. I'm not getting any of the crashes or obvious errors, but I can't join the NT domain using the smbpasswd command. Included below is a portion
of the -D 10 debug listing.
I can ping the PDC under it's FQDN, and I've also added it's IP address to LMHOSTS, but

Delayed Write failures with Windows XP
We have users who have their desktop folders on a Samba share. Some of them have been getting "Delayed Write Failure" messages recently on the "cookies/index.dat" file. At first I thought it was a
fluke related to a network outage we experienced, but now I'm finding out it had been happening previously.
This is Samba 2.2.5 on SuSE Linux SLES7 on S/390.

99.9% uptime
Sorry, forgot to change the subject on my first posting.
I was reading a comment this morning about something Microsoft had published
to the effect that there were vendors guaranteeing 99.9% uptime for NT. The
guy who wrote the reply did the math for what that means, and the results
are very interesting.
Quote below:
OK, now what does a 99.9% uptime guarantee mean? Well, it means that

Lost WINS lookup in net command on 3.0beta2
I had compiled and set up one 3.0beta2 server on S390 Linux, and successfully joined our Win2k AD domain. Everything was working well, and I went to rebuild Samba on Intel. When I tried to join the
domain using my new build, net join complained about not being able to find the DC.

Recovery from Domain/WINS Outage - Didn't work well
We're using Samba 2.2.5 and 2.2.7 in SECURITY=DOMAIN mode.
This morning we lost contact with our PDC, and for about 2 hours, users were unable to logon. After chasing this down, we determined that we were also unable to contact the WINS server defined in
smb.conf. Our backup WINS server was available, but it seems Samba only supports one WINS server in smb.conf, so this didn't help

How do you get to the GLOBALS/Advanced list?
The radio buttons don't seem to do anything, and nothing I tried refreshes the page with Advanced instead of Basic.
