NUT problem
...use the MultiLink Viewer icon from the
desktop, but it simply accepted the root password without apparently doing
anything. I can run the viewer directly (as root) from a file manager.
The icon is owned by me, but the application is set to run as root.
I suspect that the problem is with 'kdesu'. The command
'kdesu /opt/MultiLink/bin/Viewer'
which is what the icon runs, brings
'kdesu /opt/MultiLink/bin/Viewer'
bash: kdesu /opt/MultiLink/bin/Viewer: No such file or directory
From a root terminal, however,
/opt/MultiLink/bin/Viewer
/opt/MultiLink/jre/bin/java -cp...

install.packages on unix / su (PR#8760)
...use
in install.packages (). Probably this would be done using an extra argument to
install.packages () and update.packages ():
install.packages ([...], install.wrapper=NULL)
The argument value I would typically want to supply on my system (running in a
KDE Session) would be: install.wrapper="kdesu --" . I.e. I would like to run the
R CMD INSTALL command through kdesu.
Technically it would basically function like this:
Instead of
cmd0 <- paste(file.path(R.home("bin"),"R"), "CMD INSTALL")
in install.packages (), it would read
cmd0 <- paste(install....

su, context(selinux?) 2nd prompt
With a recent update of CentOS4, su's behavior has changed, in that after
prompting for password, also prompts for (selinux?) context. I'm seeing
something like:
$ su
Password:
Your default context is root:system_r:unconfined_t.
Do you want to choose a different one? [n]
kde's kdesu barfs on this second prompt. Any way to disable this second
prompt?

kdewebdev aka Quanta or repository kde-redhat.sourceforge.net
does this exist for CentOS 4 ?
OK - next level of question then...
taking a wild swing, I set up /etc/yum.repos/kde-redhat.repo and for
S&G's, I ran the obligatory 'yum update' to see what would happen.
It's an aggressive update to be sure.
KDE 3.5.0 (and all the dependent stuff such as qt) but also samba and
openoffice.
Is anyone reporting happiness / contentment with

Problems after performing yum update
I performed the update yesterday that included installing kernel
2.6.9-42.0.2.EL and replacing ethereal with wireshark.
First, the trivial...
Wireshark would not run from the KDE menu without editing the menu to
change the command from "wireshark" to "kdesu wireshark" because dumpcap
is at usr/sbin/dumpcap instead of /usr/bin/dumpcap . Making the change
causes wireshark to open root password dialog like ethereal, which it
replaced. (And which makes sense.)
Now, the puzzling. This is an AMD Athlon XP 2600+ on an ASUS A7N8X
deluxe ver 2.0 m/b...

I normally set that up to open any text type file w/that but for some
reason, on this one certain system, I can't navigate among
