There was no proxy in the file /etc/yum.conf. I specified the proxy setting

load balancing and failover
Hi,
A friend of mine has 2 lines of 512kbps terminated in two Linux boxes.
He now want to remove those 2 boxes and have some device which will
loadbalance the two ISPs and also have a failover arrangement. But he
has agreed to give me a chance to do it on Linux for my own
satisfication.
Is this easy to do with lartc? How do I go about it exactly? I have
very less time to do it since his

DGD patch not detecting dead gateway
Hello all!
I applied http://www.ssi.bg/~ja/routes-2.6.8-10.diff patch to kernel
2.6.8.1 and it works fine, or almost fine. It does the load balancing
well, but when one link is dropped it continues to try it.
At the end of http://www.ssi.bg/~ja/nano.txt it is said to ping
gateway 1 and gateway 2, for the kernel to know if that route is
working, but since my linux is connected to the links

DNAT and Load Balancing

able to set up a Load Balancing with ping based DGD (without Julian
Anastasov patch). But now I''m facing a new problem and tried some
options, with only partial solutions.
I made a script based on
http://www.mail-archive.com/lartc@mailman.ds9a.nl/msg16257.html (Thank
you Manish Kathuria), without Julian A. patch, and with routes/rules as
described in nano.txt. It works fine, but...
The problem: I do DNAT for internet located people to access my LAN
machines (VNC, RDP, etc...). It sometimes works, sometimes don''t work.
It appears that the connection from outside ca...

Problems in Dead Gateway Detection / Failover - Multiple ISP Links
...ection and failover is going
to be required whenever there is some connectivity problem at any of the
later hops. So that''s where dead gateway detection needs to work.
What could be the reason ? How can this be resolved ? I would appreciate
any pointers or suggestions.
Thanks,

Re: DGD patch not detecting dead gateway
I have a doubt. If you use such a script monitoring the link status with
ping and then reconfiguring, why do you need the DGD patch? You need to
do some reconfiguration (change multipath to a single default route)
anyway if you use the script, right?
Also, the DGD patch uses src to lookup the routing table entry, but if
you have a dynamic IP for the WAN interface (PPPoE, DHCP etc), this
approach

Two ADSL links and one gateway only
Hello!
I read the Split access and Load balancing sections into LARTC
(Chapter 4). However I have one gateway only and the LARTC says about
2 links. I need to know how to make a load balance with my links.
Thanks in advance.

x86_64 versus i386
Hello,
On the Intel Core 2 Duo processor based systems, we have the option of
installing either x86_64 or the i386 distribution. I would like to
know your experiences with the x86_64 port. How does it compare with
the i386 distribution in terms of stability, reliability and
performance ? How significant are the performance benefits gained by
using the x86_64 linux instead of i386 on the same

GUID Partition Tables and Ext3 Partition Size
Hello,
Does CentOS 5.4 support large ( > 2 TB) external storage devices using
GPT (GUID Partition Tables), while the main OS resides on smaller hard
disks using MBR. In this scenario, what can be the largest possible
size of an ext3 partition (and filesystem) which can be created on the
storage array under CentOS 5.4 ?
Thanks,
Manish

Linux Software RAID 1 - Unequal Sized Hard Disks
Has anyone created or rebuilt a Linux Software RAID having mirrored
partitions on unequal sized hard disks ? There is a CentOS 5 server
having two 400 GB hard disks with five mirrored partitions (software
RAID 1) and one of the hard disks is dying. Since new 400 GB HDDs are
not available here, we are exploring the possibility of replacing the
faulty hard disk with one of a higher capacity (500 GB

Wireless Interface Does Not Connect Automatically At StartUp
...a user logs on to the Desktop, he can connect to the
network using the NM Applet.
I have also toggled between using DHCP and Static IP Address for the
the wireless card but it makes no difference. The SSID is not being
broadcast and the Wireless Access Point / Router uses WPA-PSK.

RHEL / CentOS Kernel Updates
...in their entirety ?
For the lifetime of a distribution like RHEL 4 or RHEL 5, Red Hat
would stick to the same major and minor number of the kernel and would
just change release numbers. What is the relation, if any, between
the new kernels and the updates released by Red Hat ?
Thanks,

Routing issue
Hello,
This is on Centos 6 and not something I think is wrong with Centos 6
but I am looking to see if anybody else has experienced this and
if there is solution. So thanks up front for indulging me.
Because Linux makes routing decisions before SNAT it is causing
problems when trying to use FTP with two upstream providers in
a load balanced setup.
Other than ftp, things seem to work OK. Below
