variance components
...to calculate the variance components in a mixed effect model (one
fixed and one random effect) with REML (maximizing the proportion of
the likelihood that does not depend on the fixed effects). In S+ there is
the varcomp function, but I would like to do it in R. Is there a way to do
that?
Thanks!

bca ci's and NaN's in boot.out
...standard errors that the boot() calculates and returns
there is an automatic NA exclusion.
(A side question, in S+ the se's are saved in boot.out$statistics$SE, but
in R boot.out I couldn't find them. Are they saved somewhere in boot.out?)
Any idea would be greatly appreaciated!

lists to arrays
Does anyone know how to coerce a list to an array? I have a list with
equal sized matrixes and I want to coerce it to a 3D array.
Why is that that I cannot feed in equal sized matrixes as layers to an
array even if I set dim 3?
Thanks!

groups of boxplots
...y elegant way, by inserting a dummy NA field to the list
where the data is given. So, where I have the dummy I got more distance
between boxes, as a result it looks like groups. But I am having problems
with putting the names under the groups, and the thick marks.
Any better idea?
Thanks, Kati

Does anybody have an idea for that?
Thanks, Kati

apply with two matrixes
...) = varies with some properties of the matrixes
My guess is that I sould use tapply, but I could not get it right.
The problem would be pretty easy with a loop, but efficiency is very
important, because the objects are huge and functions a computationally
intense.
Thanks for any help in advance!

Did anyone find the same behavior under X11? Any soultions? Or just that
is why it is still beta.
Thanks for any thoughts, suggestions!

boot&table
...stion, how can you get frequencies for sample values, like what
table() does, but with reference to both the value itself and the
corresponding frequencies. I would like to have those values in a matrix
with 2 col. It is very troublesome to make it form what table() returns.
Thanks for your help!

R-1.9.1 on OS 10.2
...make[1]: *** [R] Error 1
make: *** [R] Error 1
Ok, than I tried to use the binaries for OS, but I get an installation
error.
So, again, my machine is OS 10.2.8, and I use emacs and ESS under X11 and
R-1.7.1 just workes fine (installed from Fink tree after release).
Any suggestions are welcome!
Katalin

installing package 'kinship'
Dear All,
I have problem installing the 'kinship' package. I used the
'install.packages' from R command line and had no problem installing other
packages before.
Here is what I get:
