Centos 4.3: VPN recommend/ howto anyone?
...rver/client rpm's/targ.gz's to run?
Any pointers at existing of wiki-able HOWTO's under Centos I can check out?
As usual, if it's not been documented yet, i'd sincerely contribute what I
can to the process of rendering a complete document for the future use of
the community.

64-bit ISO Burning Failures
...ike Fedora, or Whitebox, it works fine.
Is there something i'm not doing, or doing wrong when burning these 64 bit
CD's? I'm in a colo facility and would really like to leave here having
converted a bunch of my WBEL and FC boxes to 64-bit Centos.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Vsftpd/Centos Issue: Client Time Display Wrong
...on me to determine the time settings are OK,
that would be a great start.
Notice i'm not asking for a solution to the whole issue, but just a
starter set of 'grep this, enter that' forensics, so I can nail down
which of the two mechanisms are in error, specific to centos 4.3, 4.4.

c4.4: OpenSSL Behavior: handshakes/ nrpe, snmpd, et al.
...um.
Perhaps the problem lies with the custom apache rpm?
Our yum repo uses DAG. File perms are perfectly matched to working
machine, so we know it's not that.
-any ideas
p.s. was snmp removed since 4.3?
p.p.s. I never had to config tcpwrappers before in 4.3, should I do so
now in 4.4?

PGP On Centos
...Centos that will allow me to work with pgp?
I need to run pgp --fingerprint key.name
or it's equivalent.
Pro question. Google searches didn't show much, tried to search for
pgp, gnupg, openpgp, pgp on centos, openpgp on centos, centos/pgp. No
worthy results came back.
Any advice?

OT: Gigabit Rated Eth Cables - Cat 6 v. Gigatrue
...e traffic
up to 10GB's.
Should I just be happy with Cat6 for my GB switches or
is is worth getting more into the details and seeking
550mhz-rated cable?
Just curious what your experience is in migrating away
from the typical 10/100 cables of yore to the spiffier
world of gb rated traffic.

Tripwire for CentOS
...x or RH
in the near term.
One thing I just noticed was when I tried to search out Tripwire RPM's,
that none seemed evident.
Can anyone point me in the direction of an Tripwire RPM that works with
CentOS 4.3, or advise me on how to create one from the Tripwire source
download on Sourceforge?

Time Change: Centos-immune?
...for this subject, but not finding it,
-anything I need to keep my server farm of 60 centos servers (that all
run ntp) going smoothly during this next time change on March 11?
I noticed on the w2k side my IT staff have to do some scrambling, heh,
but that's expected.
Any action required?

cat cron jobs into crontab

*/3 * * * * /usr/lib64/nagios/plugins/check_megaraid_passive.sh >
/dev/null 2>&1
I am used to doing this manually via crontab -e, but now I simply have
too many centos servers to build in a given week (get to toss another
120K at some more 2U chenbro/tyan/amd64's -w000ooo).

Slightly OT: DNS -force client always use authoritative
Is there a specific way to set a name server so that clients are always
*forced* to use an autoritative name server?
UltraDNS and some others have mentioned little features they have, but
it only hints at the possibility that somewhere in the DNS spec.

yum install nagios, adding dag repository

come across seems vague.
Can someone advise me on either of these issues?
I have come across the following HOWTO, but it kind of jumps around a bit,
and the if/else logic is too hard to decipher.

kickstart - how do I specify I20_block driver
...erver/serverx.ks ip=192.168.whatever.ip
netmask=255.255.255.248 gateway=192.168.x.1 dns=my.dns.server.ip
Is there a section I should edit just before this disks in the kickstart
file are called to call and use the i20_block driver, or do I pass it as
a parameter at the kickstart command line?

Mangling TOS, or Precedence/SecurityOpts/Compartment?
...tions to be reset.
Any suggestions if iproute, iptables, or other technologies would
facilitate this complex type of transaction?
We understand that modifying the TOS can be done at the application level,
as stated by RFC 2873, but these other fields, itÂ’s still vague as to what
we can utilize.

OT: Measure 2U Server Amp Usage

Even deeper, is there an open-source equivalent to some of the
software-based solutions that purport to be able to give a reading on amp
usage. Just curious if you have a similar server-type, (supermicro=very
popular), what your measurements have been.

DNS Server
Hello,
I have recently switched from having a dynamic IP address and using a DNS
service like zoneedit and dyndns to having a static IP address.
How do I stop having to use these DNS services and use my own? I tried
changing the DNS servers at my registrar but it won't accept my server.
TIA

Calling All FS Fanatics
Now that I've been enlightened to the terrible write performance of ext3 on my
new 3Ware RAID 5 array, I'm stuck choosing an alternative filesystem. I
benchmarked XFS, JFS, ReiserFS and ext3 and they came back in that order from
best to worst performer.
I'm leaning towards XFS because of performance and because centosplus makes
kernel modules available for the stock kernel.
