ZFS Compression algorithms - Project Proposal
...algorithms[1]. Suffixes Sorting (i.e. the problem of sorting suffixes of a
given string) is the main bottleneck of BWT and really significant
progress has been made in this area since the first algorithms of
Manbers and Myers[2] and Larsson and Sadakane[3], notably the new
linear time algorithms of Karkkainen and Sanders[4]; Kim, Sim and
Park[5] and Ko e aluru[6] and also the promising O(nlogn) algorithm of
Karkkainen and Burkhardt[7].
As a conjecture, we believe that some intrinsic properties of ZFS and
file systems in general (e.g. sparseness and data entropy in blocks)
could be exploited in order to...

Smbfs crashes
Hi!
The problem appears to be the same I reported months ago:
My Linux box (Hedronn) has //Delenn/C and //Delenn/D mounted to
/mnt/delenn1 and /mnt/delenn2.
I have a music player running on Hedronn almost 24/7, but Delenn runs
W98 and thanks to that crashes quite often. The music played comes from
//Delenn/D. Hedronn has probably been playing music from there when
Delenn crashed, and now

Myst Masterpiece Edition installer
Hi list,
I've recently acquired Myst ME. The CD has a single .exe file in the
root, Myst.exe, which I believe is an installer (although it could be
the game .exe too). When running this exe, A file selector window pops
up, with the title "Where is "Main"?", and the filetype is Director
Movie. I tried with both the newest release, and the cvs version
(20050111), and

compiz-0.3.6-ubuntu woes
Hi again,
It seems that this might be related to the decorator issues. Atleast
it's bitching about loading the human-style I'm using.
It's weirder than that, though, since my desktop seems to be
ok-good-to-go (Aside the not working rotate). I mean that decorations
seem to be the same as they were earlier.

Java and compiz
Hi,
I know this is know thing about the java windows being blank. I
also kinda guess that it is not a priority to get it fixed to a lot of
you ppl. So, I'm here to help! :) It's really pain to be using Xnest and
all those to work with java-swing development, and I'd like to see this
fixed.
There was nothing of this in the archives, so whats the plan?

slow tint when tinting the whole screen
Hi,
I'm running ubuntu edgy with compiz, switched from gentoo to ubuntu
for faster updates (emerge is way slow with source builds..). So far, I
like it.
but that is not the issue I'm addressing now. I've noted that with
both these machines, when I'm doing something that tints the whole
screen to gray (like trying to logout, or using some software that
prompts for sudo
