idmap_ad Integration with Windows 2003 pre-R2
Is then new idmap_ad module capable of getting uid/gid info from a Windows 2003 AD pre-R2 with RFC2307 Unix Identity Mapping Extensions applied?
Also, is the correct syntax for specifying the schema_mode as follows:
idmap config dom.example.com:schema_mode = rfc2307
(I am not confident that I am reading the idmap_ad manpage and the new idmap document correctly.)
Thanks for the help,
Murthy

Excel doesn't open read-only files on SAMBA share
Samba version: Samba 3.0 rebuild from SRPM on RedHat 8.0 w/XFS.
I ran into this problem (which sounds a lot like Bugzilla Bug 51) when
copying files from a CD-ROM to a Samba share on a W2K client.
Double-clicking on the file name in an Explorer window gives the file not
found error, but File->Open from Excel, and double-clicking the the filename
in the file-open dialog-box works fine. The

Patch: FC4 spec file
The patch below modifies the spec file for FC4 RPM
builds as follows:
1.) Build binaries using the -lmcheck option; various
samba commands and smbd process crash badly without;
see, for example:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=164353
2.) The Fedora project's samba RPMS install
mount.cifs; it would help to have samba.org's RPMS
do the same.
It would be nice to

Samba RPMs for RedHat/FC and idmap_rid
As discussed previously on this list, Samba RPMs for
Fedora Core do not include idmap_rid support. This is
also true for older RedHat distributions. SuSE on the
other hand, seems to have been patching in idmap_rid
support since 3.0.5 or so; and with trusted domain
support, to boot. Harrumph.
I've been able to rebuild samba srpms on FC2 and
RedHat 8 by patching the samba distributed rpms,

S4-Winbind dumping core on password
Samba4-winbind (sernet-samba-4.0.9) on RHEL 6.4 dumps core on password authentication for a domain user (su/sudo), and so domain password authentication fails.? The machine is a standalone server in a Windows AD (2008R2) domain.
PuTTY logins using GSSAPI work fine, kdestroy/kinit succeeds with AD password, but su'ing to the userid from a puttty session fails. The issue seems to be related to

Samba 3.0.2a + Win2K clients: unreliable share access
After upgrading from 3.0.1 to 3.0.2a, accessing a shared folder has become unreliable: after being able to access my shares for some time I get an error message "No domain contoller was available" (actually, I'm paraphrasing that one, I unfortunately did not record it verbatim). Host linux log contains the following error message for each access:

idmap_ad: sid to uid conversion fails
I have two boxes on which I am trying to get idmap_ad
(from xad_oss_plugins) to provide uid/gid mapping, and
am getting the error:
"Could not convert sid <sid of some_user> to uid"
The story so far goes like this:
Without the line
"idmap backend = ad:ldap://<PDC's FQDN>/" in smb.conf,
I can successfully do all of:
#> wbinfo -S $(wbinfo -n some_user | awk
