Ruby on Rails: Up and Running
hello,
On page 49 of the beta version of Ruby on Rails: Up and Running, the
book suggests to download a zip file containing everything that has been
done up to that point, and a create_tables_with_data.sql file. The book
doesn''t have the link, and I couldn''t find it in the book site. Does
anyone know where to get the files?
This is a very good book.
Thanks.

No protocol supported
I'm trying to log into a problem server. The server is running an old

get:

Recommendation for a user authentication plugin
Hi,
Which user-authentication plugins should one try first? Too many out
there and too little time to try them all fairly. Thanks for your
recommendation.
cheers!

Rake aborted! on No Rakefile Found error
Hello,
On a command:
rake db:migrate
I get the "rake aborted!" error. The message is:

Checking my setup, I see that Rakefile.rb is in the expected path.
Why can''t rake see Rakefile.rb,

Did rails or shoulda go insane on the inflection of 'taxes'?
I have a model ''xp_jurisdiction_taxes'' which rails (3) created correctly.
Another model ''xp_jurisdiction_states'' has many :xp_jurisdiction_taxes.
In my spec I am using a shoulda helper to test the association but get the
following error. BTW, greped the whole project just in case and the string
''taxi'' exists nowhere.

Date parse - month and day reversed
I am getting the month and day reversed in parsing a date. I am wondering if
there is some intelligence in Ruby that knows that at the moment I am in
Mexico, as the parsing is working as if I was
"6/15/2008".to_date
=> ArgumentError: invalid date
"15/6/2008".to_date
=> Sun, 15 Jun 2008
What I really want is my date to be understood as month/day/year. Is there a
way to

Where to recruit Ruby on Rails developers?
Anyone have suggestions on where to recruit Ruby on Rails developers?
My startup''s in Berkeley, CA and I''m looking for a talented technical
lead. I''ve tried LinkedIn and Craigslist but the pickings are slim. This
project provides an opportunity to use OpenLaszlo.

Compiling with GCC on win32?
Why does the source use `int64_t'. Is this suppose to be built
with GCC? I have Mumit Kahns gcc, version 2.8.1. Do I need a
2.9.5 version to get the `int64_t' type? I have substituted a
typedef of `long long' in os_types.h. This seems to make sense?
The rint() macro also seems to be having some problems. I guess
there are two meanings to __GNUC__ and _WIN32. One is the OS...

Is apostrophe (') something special in a regex if at end?
(Ruby 1.9.2) I have a simple validation regex which I need to pass the
following values: "Billy-Bob" and "O''Kelley" (as test cases). Originally I
was not allowing apostrophe but it became apparent I had to allow it.
The initial regex was:
/^[a-zA-Z -]*$/
Now, when I added the apostrophe like this:
/^[a-zA-Z'' -'']*$/
Then for some reason

Join table not being populated
Hello,
I have the usual Categories and Products table scenario, mediated by a
Categories_Products join table. When I create a new Product and into a
given Category, I notice that my join table is not being populated.
Shouldn''t the join Categories_Products table be populated?
Thanks,

Global text search (and replace) on MacVim?
Been trying out Macvim and I think I have covered most of what I used in
other editors except for how to handle global searches and replaces for text
in files (i.e. not looking for file names, but search and replace text
within all files below a specific directory). Can anyone who uses MacVim
tell me what they use for such tasks? I have been poking around and see
:grep as the main method, although
