Building a kernel without kabichk
I?m trying to build a 2.6.18-128.1.6.el5 kernel without kabichk. I have downloaded the sources, installed the compiler, etc and ran the following command rpmbuild -bb --target=`uname -m` --without kabichk --with baseonly --without debug \ --without debuginfo kernel-2.6.spec. I had modified the .SPEC file according to the WIKI page http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Custom_Kernel I have NOT

Nouveau module X server not starting on a NP900X5N Kaby Lake machine
...out the framebuffer error. X starts with a backtrace list in the shell and then stops with the error: 'Segmentation fault at address 0x0. Fatal sever error etc etc etc. Hope this helps! In fact the above is part of a much bigger issue I have with the machine. When I enable the i915 module (Kaby lake native video) my screen goed black after a while. The machine is totally stuck in that state. Even ssh connection is not possible. It shows no errors in the (saved) logs after restarting the machine. So I disabled the i915 module and try to get the nvidia card running. Without any luck....

Hi Akemi, Thanks for the reply. >Do you mean no src.rpm of your custom kernel? If so, rpmbuild -bs will build >it. The only source rpm I can find is from the CentOS Extras. FIlename makes it appear that you need the 2.6.18-8.1.8 kernel from CentOS Extras: kvm-kmod-36-1.2.6.18_8.1.8.el5.src.rpm If I try to rebuild that with: rpmbuild --rebuild --target=x86_64

Kernel compiling troubles (ABI checking)
Hi, I'm having a problem compiling the kernel as a normal user (don't know if not being root is the problem or not). What is ABI? I can compile with the flag --without kabichk, but I don't know if really is that the solution or not. The package build stops at this point: + echo '**** kABI checking is enabled in kernel SPEC file. ****' **** kABI checking is enabled in kernel

Can't build CentOS 5.1 kernel from source
I pulled down the kernel-2.6.18-53.el5.src.rpm source to build my usual custom kernel (adds NTFS wwrite support) and it does not build. Whether I include the NTFS or just build from the source with no changes (other than make oldconfig and adding the # x86_64 line), I get this error every time: Building modules, stage 2. + mkdir -p /var/tmp/kernel-2.6.18-53.el5.nx-root/usr/lib/debug/boot +

Centos 7 and Kably lake: black screen
I got a new laptop as my old one died: an HP Probook 470 G4.? I installed Centos 7 1511. The laptop has a Kaby Lake i5 CPU and an? 01:00.0 3D controller: NVIDIA Corporation Device 134e (rev a2).? Fedora recognizes it as a GM108M/930MX. This may give some hints, but it is not that the standard kernel does not support it, this output comes from the 4.8.7 mainline kernel which should support this configuration...

XFS might be available for i686 from the CentOS Plus repository.
Hi, the topic is an excerpt of the 5.4 release notes and raises a question. I have a i386 server here, that has been running for nearly two years with xfs module from extras repo. When lookin at the module it was build against 2.6.18-92.1.13.el5. Question is, is it still safe to use this module with 5.4? Or should I switch back to a CentosPlus kmod and an older kernel? Rainer

Correct way to provide kernel patch
I work with a USB device that is intercepted by the USB HID driver. In order to stop this behavior, the device needs to be added to the HID blacklist (hid-core.c) and a custom kernel needs to be compiled. If I create a CentOS specific patch, it appears I need to create the patch against an already patched source tree (i.e. after running rpmbuild -bp) because other patches exist that add items to

[Bug 3194] New: Please consider lowering chacha20-poly1305@openssh.com cipher priority on AES-NI capable CPU
