problems using --ignore-existing and filter rules
...crazy to think that I should be able to do this with rsync, or if the
consensis is that there indeed a bug which needs to be debugged and
exterminated?
(Now if only rsync offered a way to run commands on the remote server
when certain files were updated...hehe).

Rsync to a Read Only file system
I think your product is awesome, but I am experiencing an unexpected
behaviour.
$ rsync -avviPH /Users/alan/Desktop/rsync_test\ Folder/
