Linux router performance
...ux box used as router (I guest I''m
not the first :). Althought I know it mainly depends on the hardware, I''m
trying to find some references on the topic or comparations with other
routing solutions (FreeBSD box used as router, Cisco, etc). For example,
http://facweb.cti.depaul.edu/jyu/Publications/Yu-Linux-TSM2004.pdf
(althought is related with Linux-briding more than with Linux-routing) shows
in Figure 14 that with an AMD Duron 1.3GHz 512M RAM a throughput of 90 Mbps
can be achieved.
Anybody knows any other similar analysis, please?
Best regards,

Many thanks in advance, and sorry about the long message.
The report on this research is obviously not yet published, but if the

DNS & DHCP Management System
...uto/dynamic/smart
(WI|D)NS/DHCP
How do you manage DNS&DHCP (the informations filled in, not the server
software) for hundreds or thousands of computers?
For our network, just now we use homebrewed scripts, but they are
getting unsufficient (cca. 700 machines).
I found this:
http://sauron.jyu.fi/ = Sauron - A Free DNS & DHCP Management System
What are references for that? Good, bad, sufficient?
Do you use something similar?

a lld linker script bug
Hi,
I've found a crash in lld when using linker script with wildcard matching.
An example linker script:
INPUT(os/main.o os/foo.o os/startup.o)
OUTPUT(k.bin)
SECTIONS
{
. = 0x0
.text : { *startup.o (.text) }
.text.2 : { *(.tex*) }
}
I've wrote up a patch to fix this crash.

[LLVMdev] Help needed about code & data mixing when emit object files
Hi,
I'm building a new backend which can only load very limited range of imm.
So I decided to use constant pool, and place constant pool entries close
enough to instructions use the entries (we have very limited range
PC-relative memory load). However, lld & llc output the object files that
gather all constant pool entries into one section. How can I make them mix
these entries into code

[LLVMdev] How can I remove these redundant copy between registers?
Hi,
I've been working on a Blackfin backend (llvm-3.6.0) based on the previous
one that was removed in llvm-3.1.
llc generates codes like this:
29 p1 = r2;
30 r5 = [p1];
31 p1 = r2;
32 r6 = [p1 + 4];
33 r5 = r6 + r5;
34 r6 = [p0 + -4];
35 r5 *= r6;
36 p1 = r2;
37 r6 = [p1 + 8];
38 p1 = r2;
p1 and r2 are in different register classes.

[Bridge] Measuring Bridge Performance (+ebtables/iptables)
.... On the bridge I used
vnstat and iptraf to measure the throughput. I also wrote a perl script which is reading the device
counters from /proc to calculate an average.
On my search I found this, which is pretty interessting, but I don't have an Ixia testing device.
http://facweb.cti.depaul.edu/jyu/Publications/Yu-Linux-TSM2004.pdf
Is it worth to rent such a device or are there any good ways to create a similar setup?
Why I'm not satisfied with my tests? There's a production setup running, which is working at much
higher packet/throughput rates than I was able to reproduce in the lab...

nlme-problem
Hi,
I have a problem with fitting a nonlinear mixed-effects model to my data.
I was able to fit quite simple exponential model but now I?m trying to fit
the following Gompertz model:

fixed=b0+b1+b2+b3~1, start=c(b0=150, b1=3000, b2=0.6, b3=2500))
I?m getting the following error:

Hallo,
I'm trying to sample a matrix with simple random sampling without
replacement but seem to have a problem with the matrix length. Both
sample() and srswor() use length() which returns the number of columns in
matrix. This means that to function it seems that the sample size exceeds
the matrix length. I need to sample the whole matrix for there are
auxiliary variables I need for further

unique(1:3,nmax=1) freezes R
Dear all,
I was playing around with factor contrasts, and found the argument nmax on function factor. When using nmax=1, R froze completely, and I had to close it from task manager. After some debugging, I found that the problem is actually in unique-function, where the internal unique function is called:
.Internal(unique(x, incomparables, fromLast, nmax))
More generally, it looks like
