Samba4: Full schema problems
...XP clients are quite happy, and creation of inetOrgPerson
accounts
is possible now! Great work!
However I'm running into some trouble when accessing samba's LDAP
server with ldap browsers. The error only occurs while browsing the
schema dn:
cn=schema,cn=configuration, $BASEDN
I tried jxplorer and apachedirectorystudio (both work fine with a real
Active
Directory) and this are the errors I get:
jxplorer:

tag 4) [Root exception is

"Temporary authentication failure" ? Cant connect with ldap user
...ry authentication failure. [host and date

In the logs it says

But I KNOW the admin password I entered into the dovecot-lda.conf.ext is
correct as I use it to log into the LDAP directory over jxplorer
I also know the password for the user i try to log in with is correct as i
set it myself over and over just to be sure there are no typos.
I'm at a loss, I've been at this end for a few days now and can't find good
tutorials online because its either always an old dovecot, postfix, lda...

Attributes are base64 encoded
Hello,
I've added a samba4 as a second DC in a network where the first DC is a
Win2k8R2.
The join seems to run smoothly.
But after the join an ldapsearch -LLL -x -H
ldapi://%2Fvar%2Flib%2Fsamba%2Fprivate%2Fldap_priv%2Fldapi on the samba,
return some strage things:
? some attributes like unicodePwd and supplementalCredentials are missing
? lots of attributes are base64 encode (ex: memberOf::

My dovecot works fine against Active Directory 2003, but not against AD2008
...ostfix-dovecot-ldap-centos-5/
If you were able to make sense out of these sites' tiny screen-shots and one-line
descriptions my hat's off to you. "Your a better man that I am Gunga-Din!" If
there was more detailed narrative somewhere I couldn't find it. Also, I don't
have jXplorer on my system, so probably I couldn't get too far anyway.
BIG QUESTIONS:
1. Are you using MS Outlook IMAP clients in your environment? If so, how are you
making them connect with LDAP? By checking the SPA checkbox?
2. The mail_gid/mail_uid as vmail confuses me. I see that setting a lot,

Good Admin tool ?
Hi all,
Just wondering what Samba administration tool is the most frequently used ?
What tool do admins use daily ? I've tried Cmd line / Samba tools, Swat,
Webmin, LAM... and still haven't found a full-featured one and
*user-friendly* one...
Many Thanks :)
Ganael.

...ded since it is supposed
to be "ASCII-clean". (See e.g.
http://www.openldap.org/lists/openldap-software/200807/threads.html#00251)
So ldapsearch is not the tool you are looking for here. The solution is
probably to use a (graphical) LDAP browser that is more versatile. LDAP
Explorer, JXplorer, LDAP Account Manager, or (like I do) Apache
Directory Studio.

machine accounts aren't added properly with smbldap-useradd.pl + ldap backend
...e account does not get the objectClass
"SambaSAMAccount", and therefore it isn't found when the samba server
tries to authenticate it.
Using smbldap-useradd.pl -a instead seems to fix this problem, but then
the machine is not put into the Computers ou. I can also use an ldap
editor (jxplorer, in my case) to manually add the objectclass, but this
is less than ideal.
Should I add this problem as a bug against smbldap-useradd.pl? Or is
that not considered the right tool?
I have tried using the smbpasswd method (and yes, I have already done
smbpasswd -w); as the unix system uses ldap pa...

samba banner string
...he banner "SAMBA 3.0.14a on debian on sarge
(pdcsrv)"
I can see that when I use the M$ server tools and I've tried to rewrite the
string but when I click "ok" the string still the same, what I mean is that
no matter what I write there it doesn't change.
I use JXplorer to navigate throw my ldap directory but the string is from
samba and not from ldap so I can't see the string in ldap.
By the way I would like to say thanks to Joachim for the kixtart logon tip,
It is working like charm now.
Thank you all advance.

So, it seems like "Administrator" is mapped to "nobody" on the Linux
side. I checked the Administrator account in LDAP using JXplorer to
verify whether it's not only a smabaSamAccount, but also a
posixAccount. It indeed is.
Any idea what's wrong. Do I have to perform any additional stetps
(right granting, user mapping, etc. for the Administrator user)?
Do I have to create an additional root user in the LDAP database and...

duplicate sids against classicupgrade
Hi,
I have a working Samba3 domain with 3.6 servers. Samba runs on Debian
Wheezy and has openldap backend. I'm going to upgrade to Sernet Samba 4.1.
I copied the pdc to a virtual machine to test the upgrade process.
According to the wiki I cannot have duplicate sids, but I have about
fourty. It seems they are the same that the net groupmap list command gives.
Some smb.conf parameters:

My story installing Samba-LDAP PDC (it has a happy ending)
....html for LDAP configuration
(even though I know they have errors regarding 3.0.x).
I'm running SuSE 9.0 on an x86 machine. I have my openldap server running
without problem. At the moment is has no samba information except the
inclusion of the samba.schema in the slapd.conf.
I'm using the JXplorer tool to add/modify/delete directory information.
My LDAP base is dc=ica,dc=luz,dc=ve.
The server is listening without SSL (port 389) on interface 127.0.0.1
(localhost) interface and listening LDAPS (with SSL, port 636) on all
interfaces (I know this is deprecated in favor of StartTLS, but this

Joining XP clients to a Samba PDC
Greetings,
I've been pulling my hair out on this problem for several days and I'm
not really any closer to a solution. I hope someone out there can help
me.
I'm trying to set up a samba PDC on a Fedora Core 2 box using an LDAP
backend (on another server). The base install of everything is working
fine. At the unix level LDAP connectivity is configured and working
properly for
