VNC ports
I am needing to explicitly assign VNC ports to my virtual guests so that I can connect to them externally via a VNC client, and not virt-viewer. Since I will have multiple KVM Hosts with access to the same shared storage (to facilitate migrations) I need to ensure I have unique VNC ports assigned to each guest so that I don't overlap somehow. I had planned to use a range of ports starting at

Boot delay
Is there a method of tweaking the boot sequence of a KVM instance so that you can delay the process for X number of seconds? I don't have enough time between starting the KVM and connecting via VNC. Thanks Jeff

e: How to disconnect the ISO image using virsh
I am trying to detach an ISO from a KVM machine and I've tried both attach-disk using " " in the file path as well as the update-device option but am getting this error error: Failed to update device from /var/run/libvirt/qemu/kvmtest1.xml error: XML description for unknown device type is not well formed or invalid. I tried doing a virsh edit on the xml file to remove the source

insert ISO into a KVM guest
There's got to be a simple way to attach an ISO to a KVM guest. I just haven't yet discovered it. I've tried adding the following stanza to my guest XML file, under the <devices> stanza and starting the guest: <disk type='file' device='cdrom'> <driver name='qemu' type='raw' /> <source

UID/GID for qemu & kvm
We use AD infrastructure for user/group management, and GID 107 is already in use. Can I create an AD entry for the kvm and qemu groups with different GIDs, as well as the qemu user/UID? From looking at the libvirt package, it appears it does a getent to see if these exist and, if not, creates them locally, so I assume adding them to AD is ok - and that the GID/UID specified in the package

XML file location
Can anyone tell me how to change the default directory which stores the guest XML files? I want to keep them with the guest image files on a shared NFS filesystem. Thanks, Jeff

Question about terminology
I'm having a minor disagreement with a colleague over terminology. When you have a group of KVM Hosts which have access to the same network and storage (for purposes of migration) yet there is no clusterware or HA software involved...how does one refer to this group of hosts? I call them a "Host Group." He insists on the term "Cluster." To me, "cluster"
