Hi, I've made mysqlf a RPM and installed it. After that i did what i shouldn' do: remove the files it installed. Now, i wnat to install it agai and i can't. Already rebuilt the rpm database ( rpm -vv --rebuilddb), used --force, --replacepkgs, --replacefiles, --justdb, --erase, --initdb, but no good. Been at rpm.org, but found nothing that i already know. Crazy thought about upgrading to new major release
...would be great to upgrade from a C5 -> C7 (due to no longer supported) or C6 > C7 (for updated packages). Sounds like the upgrade tool is not quite an option... I was thinking... What would be wrong with any "easy" script that did the following: 1) Removed all packages with the --justdb option. 2) Import the RPM-GPG-KEY-CentOS-7 3) install the centos-release-7.3.1611 ... rpm 4) yum -y upgrade 5) yum groupinstall "GNOME Desktop" (for example) and reboot of course. Does that have any chance or working and be valid? Thanks, Jerry

Recover rpm DB corrupted by disk failure?
Over the weekend my workstation (still on CentOS 3) started showing SMART errors, so we shut it down and moved everything onto a new drive. On reboot, the RPM database reports as corrupted and "rpm --rebuilddb" segmentation faults. Is there any reasonable way to recover from this, short of a complete reinstall? The machine is otherwise up though it''s quite likely some files

SuperOdoctor for super-micro
Rats... found some hardware monitoring from the vendor and it's broken, or I'm missing some pieces. No mention of CentOS specifically, but RH is supported, so figured it *ought* to work. I'm apparently missing a library -- liblinc.so.1, and a net search reveals several sources, both for x86 and 64-bit. Tried them both, after the x86 did not work, and the 64-bit I thought was

4.4 yum update problem
On one of my machines yum hung up while installing the updates and could not be interrupted or killed. I rebooted the machine the next day, but now a 'yum update' reports: Error: Missing Dependency: openssh = 3.9p1-8.RHEL4.12 is needed by package openssh-askpass-gnome and Error: Missing Dependency: rpm = 4.3.3-13_nonptl is needed by package rpm-build even though rpm -q says those

Vmware server on centos x86_64server
I had this working once but had to re-use the machine and didn't keep track of what it took. Does anyone have a list of the extra packages needed to run vmware server on a machine with the single-disk x86_64 server install + updates. glibc.i686 installed ok, but xorg-x11-libs.i386 has a conflict with fontconfig that I don't recall from the previous time. Could that have changed with the

rpm question
When I install some RPMS like openoffice 3 on centos x85_64 is there some command that will leave all the actual files alone (leave them installed) but just remove the RPM name from the RPM database so centos now things the packages are not installed? Reason is I was wanting to do this so a next yum update does not get all confused... and the yum update happens just like I never installed

yum: removing Java group fails
I did a "yum groupremove Java" and that failed "somehow". Yum listed all group members as "erased", but some rpm packages failed because of missing config files or so. As a result none of the 50 packages were removed from the rpm database, but all of their files seem to have been removed. How can I clean them out from the rpm db? Kai -- Kai Sch?tzl, Berlin,

Error on Samba 3.2.6 installation
When I installed Samba 3.2.6 from Sernet, I got the following error: /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.54116: line 2: fg: no job control error: %postun(samba3-3.0.32-36.i386) scriptlet failed, exit status 1 The error happens when installing the samba and winbind RPMs. I got the same error when installing the previous version 3.2.5 and perhaps 3.2.4. The "rpm-tmp.number" was different in those cases,

Removal of CodeBreakers package
I installed Codebreakers Redhat pakage to my eDesktop 2.4. I downloaded necessary files for depedency problems. I had tried Caldera's package without success. Being a newbie I decided to try CodeBreakers. When running winecheck it came up worse than the previous package. I tried to uninstall package and my system did not see it as installed. I deleted Wine.d from my /opt directory

Migrating from RHEL5 to CentOS-5 -- little report
...ed and details on how to reproduce this problem. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I found out that files in /etc/sysconfig/rhn were responsible for this behaviour, so i uninstalled rhn-client-tools (from RHEL5) using the --justdb option and moving /etc/sysconfig/rhn to /etc/sysconfig/rhn.bak. Because /etc/sysconfig/rhn belongs to the centos-release package too, I made a re-install of this package. e. Now I could run yum upgrade which upgraded my system to CentOS-5 without any error ms...

Bug in sernet RPM's postun?
Hi, I was just wondering whether this possible bug with the Sernet Samba3 RPMs for CentOS 5 is known, since it has not yet been fixed. When uninstalling the Sernet RPMs for Samba3 (in this case Samba 3.2.x) the %postun scriptlet fails every time with: # rpm -e samba3-3.2.0-36 /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.56356: line 2: fg: no job control error: %postun(samba3-3.2.0-36.x86_64) scriptlet failed, exit status

YUM update from RHEL3 to CentOS3 stalls
Hi all, I just ran into a problem. I was following the nifty procedure to upgrade a WhiteHat/RHEL3.x box to CentOS 3.6 and the update hung. It was in the process of updating MySQL server, and a post install scriptlet apparently failed. So I killed the process with a CTRL-C. However, upon trying to restart YUM, it says there is nothing left to, saying: Gathering header information file(s)

Building a C5 chroot on a C6 machine
I'm trying to do something slightly silly; rather than having a C5 machine and a C6 machine around for compiling and testing, I want to create a C5 chroot area. Something similar to "mock" but using lvm snapshots and some local config specific stuff. (Potentially even using Linux Containers to enter the chroot environment). So I thought I'd build out the chroot... % cat

Is there a way to _remove_ dependencies from an RPM built from source?
I'm building my own openmpi packages derived from upstream SRPMs. Problem: The ones built with Intel's compiler can only be installed by force, because Intel doesn't register their provided libs with rpm. Any idea how this can be done? (Alternative ideas are appreciated as well -- as long as they don't read as: make Intel fix this.) -Michael
