Utility of Centos liveCD
...tcpdump. Given the frequent use of a livecd for testing and debugging, those would seem to be key tools that should be available. Obviously a LiveCD can't contain everything anybody might ever want, but I'd give those two tools a pretty high priority; certainly much higher than, oh, sound-juicer, say, or openoffice.org-impress. (See me *not* asking for emacs in this space. Add software is hung in Updating Software stage
I am looking via the console, and add software is hung. Saying: Updating Sound-Juicer Can't ping the box. I had selected a lot of packages to install (I did a minimal server install initially). Obviously I have to reboot. Question is how do I recover from this?

The CDex and Flac saga continues
...Flac), they played fine and all seemed wonderful. Sadly life is no longer roses and chocolates. Now as I come to rip the whole lot to Vorbis files, Oggenc is spewing an error that the files are 'not a supported format'. As the flacs which I have produced since moving to Ubuntu (with sound juicer) seem to work, I am starting to worry that all the files which I made from CDex are going to give me grief. Any ideas? Suggestions? Some magical something which someone can offer me to fix up whatever is wrong with my many Flac files??? Can I run some script to decode the flacs to wav and back agai...

Jinzora and mounted file system
...y system, I created a file system (/dev/hda3) that I mount as /var/music. I installed Jinzora on my system and want to use it as the frontend for listening to my MP3s. However, when Jinzora tries to access anything on /var/music it complains that it's an invalid file system. I can use sound-juicer to rip CDs and write them to that file system, though. I also created an alias for Apache to host that directory and that also complains that it's not accessible, so I'm thinking there's a permissions problem. The mount point and the files on that file system are owned by apache.apa...

Update Issue
...irst time I have had any problems for a while. Have I broken something? (I did find libavcodec.so.51 at PBone, but it won't install because it wants the libx264.so.55, which I haven't been able to find.) Is transcode what I use to convert CDs to MP3 files? I did recently add MP3 codecs to Juicer, so I could convert my CD collection. And I did try to update via yum after running 'yum clean all' and I got the same dependency issues. Thanks for any pointers. -- RonB -- Using CentOS 5.3

Audio File Conversion: Extract CDDA from Music CD and Save as MP3 on Hard Drive
I'm using CentOS 4.4. It looks like I can use Sound Juicer (I normally use GNOME) or KAudio Creator in KDE to do this. I've been looking for gstreamer-plugins-mp3 with the Lame MP3 codec, but the files I find quickly are for early versions of Fedora Core. If someone can give me a URL for a version that will work on CentOS 4.4, that will be greatly app...

[Flac-users] software
Hello everyone! I'd like to set up a FLAC jukebox on a Linux laptop. What do you guys recommend for software? I need to be able to tag the files according to the data I want in there, and then I need to be able to play the files back in all kinds of crazy ways according to the tags. What do you guys recommend? - Grant

CDex and Flac
I am using CDex to encode my music into Flac. I am using the latest version of Flac (with the frontend etc.) and sending the rips to it as an 'external encoder' with the string: -8 -o %2 -T "artist=%a" -T "title=%t" -T "album=%b" -T "date=%y" -T "tracknumber=%tn" -T "genre=%g" - However, I am getting the below output/error with

converting mp3's to aac+ or ogg
For archiving from source media (CD usually) to flac? I typically use EAC either from Windows or Wine as it allows for the most configuration. Off the top of my head I think Sound Juicer will do it for *nix, though there are probably others that work just as well. Chris Dave wrote: > Hi, > Thanks. As is usually the case circumstances kind of put this > project on a few days hold, but i was wondering what do you use for > flac conversion? > Thanks. > Dave....

converting mp3's to aac+ or ogg
Hello, I've got a FreeBSD 6 machine running icecast2 and ices0streaming four different streams of mp3's. Now i have a need to stream the same content as either aac+ or ogg vorbis whichever would be easiest to set up and give the best quality. I want these new streams to handle both broadband and dialup users without sacrificing quality. My problem is i really really do not want to

Problem with xen on Centos-4.4?
I am running a Xen installation on a Centos-4.4 based test box, my desktop unit, and I am having intermittent problems installing certain pieces of software. Some time back I posted to this list regarding my inability to install Adobe Acrobat on this unit and was advised to essentially repackage the software and try again.
