Samba <- Winbind -> Windows 2003 ADS Questions
...k-You from my company to the brilliant developers responsible for
this software. We have our Samba server integrated with our Windows 2003
AD domain users via Winbind - a working installation with some issues

Dovecot with Maildir
...p=10.163.195.83, lip=10.163.195.82, mpid=7489, session=<5h3qtL4qTACto8NT>Feb ?1 19:37:31 speedy dovecot: imap(rsmith): Disconnected: Logged out in=95 out=440
The maildir on my instance is located in /var/log/mail.
The output of doveadm is as follows:
root at speedy:/var/mail# doveadm user -u jsmithuserdb: jsmith? system_groups_user: jsmith? uid ? ? ? : 1000? gid ? ? ? : 1000? home ? ? ?: /home/jsmith
If that home variable is suppose to be the maildir folder it is wrong. ?It should be /var/mail/jsmith. ?If that is the problem, where or how do I change it.
Thanks in advance!!

Mapping SID>UID (and reverse)
Hi
I have a new Samba 3.6.10 server running on Solaris 10.
The server is a member of the local Active Directory (which I'll call "DOMAIN" in this email). Unix username resolution is via NIS. All domain users have NIS usernames as well.Winbind is running to allow SMBD to perform sid>uid mapping and I have setup idmap_nss. I am not using winbind in /etc/nsswitch.conf as NIS

user name with a dot not working
...or example
"j.smith".
In our network we have Win2K PDC and a Samba server. smb.conf contains
this:
[global]
security = domain
password server = MYSERVER
username map = /etc/samba/smbusers
[myshare]
valid users = j.smith
write list = j.smith
etc...
/etc/samba/smbusers file contains this:
jsmith = j.smith
And Linux box with Samba server has an account for user 'jsmith'
(/home/jsmith).
So I'm trying to map 'j.smith' (windows user name) to 'jsmith' (linux user
name). But the problem is that when I try to access shares on samba server

Question on use of a username map file and security=domain interactions ?
Hi ....
I'm looking for thoughts/experiences when the following conditions are met ...
I have 2 users .... say Sam Smith and Jeff Smith
On UNIX (on the samba server) their logins are
Walt Smith = "smith"
Jeff Smith = "jsmith
On the NT DOMAIN side, their logins are
Walt Smith = "wsmith"
Jeff Smith = "smith"
In my smb.config file, I have
security = domain [ and all the stuff that goes with it]
username map = /samba/lib/name-maps

Problem with file ownerships on domain member server
...ng Samba 3.0.33. The server has been joined to the Active Directory domain (CSS).
Every user has both a Unix login (served by NIS) and a Windows Domain login account. I can connect to the Samba share and create files without any problems. The Samba install is successfully mapping domain user "jsmith" to the Unix user "jsmith".
However, when I check the ownership of the file from within Windows, I see that the file is owned by "jsmith (Unix User\jsmith)" and not "jsmith (CSS\jsmith)".
Is it possible to configure Samba so that files are created with the DOMA...

Help with mapping a UNIX group to a AD Directory Group
..."net groupmap list".
Here's a detailed example of what I'm looking for samba and winbind to
do:
Right now the output of getent passwd looks like this for an AD user on
my Linux machine (Yes, I am not using a separator and I am using
templates for the home directory and shell)
jsmith:*:233:204:John Smith:/home/NICE/jsmith:/bin/bash
204 is the gid that the winbind service has assigned to the AD
NICE\ccusers group
330 is the gid of my Linux ccusers group
I would like the output of winbind to look like this
jsmith:*:233:330:John Smith:/home/NICE/jsmith:/bin/bash (correct gid)...

Use a different usename than the recipient address (that require a lookup)?
Hi there,
I am integrating Postfix and DoveCot, both use LDAP to look up
user/email address info. My question is this: can I create a user
"jsmith" to get all emails with the recipient address:
dovecotdemo at domain? Because of using LDAP, I need to do a lookup to
know that the user "jsmith" is getting emails for "dovecotdemo at domain",
NOT "dovecotdemo" (there will be no such user).

has no effect on the Unix primary group. For instance, I have a user

mapped so he gets the right department drive, however, he has no rights
to files in the drive. I check /etc/groups and he is listed as a member
of the acctng group. I check pdbedit -Lv jsmith and see his group SID
