Windows 2K/XP Profile/Homedir replication issue?
Hey there,
Just a question for you Samba 2.2.x gurus out there :)
We have a contingent (a steadily increasing contingent) of Win2K and WinXP
workstations.
Does anyone here know how to stop the profiles from replicating?
If we create a file in the profile dir, say \\PDC\UserHome\profile.doc.
It will replicate that to the profile directory, while one file or two files
are not a problem, we use

"This error can occur if the drive letter you are mapping with a net use
command is already mapped in the user's properties."
part of the JSI FAQ at http://www.jsifaq.com/reghack.htm
TO fix it, try disconnecting the drives before mapping new ones. This may
or may not be the best way to fix it, but in my scripts, I use this:

Laptops randomly losing their domain credentials
I'm having a randomly occurring problem with some of the laptops that
we maintain. They are joined to our Samba domain (samba-3.0.14a-1).
Every once in a while when they are disconnected from the local network
they will drop their cached domain passwords and will not allow the
user to log back into the computer. It will return a domain unavailable
error until it is plugged back into the

Automatic selection pf printers
Hi List,
We have a large (6500 desktops) network distributed over a few dozen
sites. The clients are (almost) all Windows95 and WinXP. We currently
use Netware as our network operating system, and are looking at the
possibility of moving to (Samba on) Linux to provide file and print
services.
One of the nice things about Novell NDS is that you can specify
printers that are available to

Howto install multiple printers using the same driver for Samba on Linux?
Hi, I would like to install multiple printers (about a hundred) to my Linux site.
I have created a smb.conf-file with all the printers (and also a printers.conf as I use CUPS for printing).
The printers are e.g. HP LJ 4050 and I do not want to install every one the manual way (I use NT for that).
When I manually installs a printer e.g. HP LJ 4050 with driver within lj345.exe from microsoft, the

http proxies: setting and unsetting
Hi,
I am trying to use R at work and at home on the same computer. At work, I have a proxy, and at home, I do not. I have, for work, a User environment variable "http_proxy" which I set in the OS (Windows XP Pro). When I am at work, and I try to retrieve data from the web with 'read.csv', things work just fine. I assume it knows how to use the proxy.
The trouble is when I
