pxelinux 2.04+ hangs after loading kernel
Hi,
I just tried to boot my token ring devices with 2.05 - to no avail,
it hangs after loading the kernel. I then tried older versions, and found
2.03 booting like a charm, and every 2.04-pre including 2.04 hanging.
Here's the config of the devices:
- Networkstation 2800 with IBM PCI Token Ring card 2
- IBM Thinkpad T21 with IBM PCI Token Ring card 2
Maybe this has to do with the changes

hpa-tftp with xinetd
Good day,
Just a quick question- could someone please confirm that this is the correct
xinetd configuration (or not) for hpa-tftp?
We've noticed that, when under moderate load hpa-tftpd resides in memory,
even after there are no connections or even if xinetd is shut down. Under
light load the server goes away after each connection, as desired.
Thanks in advance!

nilo -> tftp-hpa interaction
I downloaded nilo and oskit from www.nilo.org.
Added pcnet32.c linux-2.0.39 driver to oskit.
Compiled nilo with pcnet32 and produced boot floppy image.
Use it inside vmware vm. My aim is to be able to test pxelinux using
vmware+nilo and not a real machine.
Floppy starts, detects nic, receives ip from dhcp server, requests boot
image to tftpd-hpa, then crashes when talking to tftp. Is

Boot messages on VT
Hello,
I am using with success SYSLINUX-1.48 to boot a CD-Rom in order to realize
an automatic installation of Linux.
Actually all messages during the boot step are displayed on VGA screen. In
the operational version, we have only a VT on COM1.
I have tested to modified my syslinux.cfg like the following listing but
boot messages are always displayed on VGA screen ! Can you help me, please ?

Hi Josef,
I have included the hex dump, I hope it will help
to pinpoint the problem.

Bootable 2.88MB floppy image
I would like to be able to create a 2.88MB bootable floppy image to hold the kernel and initrd -- will be used for automated install. In various newsgroups there have been many posting attempting to describe how to achieve this, but none of them is complete.
Can syslinux be used to achieve this?
What about memdisk?
Thank you in advance.

Disk images and syslinux
Hi,
I'm working on a Red Hat 7.3 based bootable cd. I have included a number of firmware update floppy images to it succesfully. However, I run into problems trying to build a floppy image for IBM ServerRAID firmware update. The firmware update disk set contains three disks. So their content does not fit into 1.44 nor 2.88 floppy images.
To my understanding it possible to build a hard disk

more on PXELinux confiuration file woes
I performed an experiment in which I had dhcpd specify a named file ("foo")
instead of
one based on a client's MAC address. Lo and behold, the same problem
occured. The PXE
stack requested and was served the right file, the kernel loaded as did the
initrd. But again, the
boot sequence stopped at "Ready."
Keep in mind that the contents of the file are the same as was in the

Size limit for initrd in PXELINUX?
Hi Peter,
(at least I hope it is you, who gets this mail)
I have a problem while booting over the netwoork using PXELINUX.
When I use a initrd smaller or equal 16 MB, everything works fine, but when
I increase the size, the system doesn't boot. In case of a 32 MB initrd
(same content, just bigger), I get the error-message, that the system
couldn't mount root. From 64 MB on, the system

kbdmap & ASCII > 128
Hi,
I've just played around with kbdmap in pxelinux. I always wondered why there was no
translation for "AltGr"-Keys (the right 'Alt'-Key) (AltGr-Q generates "@" on a german
keyboard e.g.), and I found in conio.inc (syslinux 1.76):
getchar:
[..]
.kbd: xor ax,ax ; Get keyboard input
int 16h
and al,al
jz .func_key
mov bx,KbdMap ; Convert character sets

SysLinux GPL license violation
Hi there,
As I could not find a direct maintainer email address, I'm sending this
to the mailing list.
SysLinux, being a GPL product, is being sold under a very restrictive
license without even offering the sources to the public.
I've written up my findings here: http://www.palli.nl/~ivo/rdp/
Please have a look for yourself.

Intel Boot Agent 4.0.19
First, THANKS! The SYSLINUX/PXELINUX s/w and docs are great. I have been
able to set up a working server for PXE boot in very little time, using our
existing Win2k DHCP server and a Red Hat 7.2 Linux server for tftp, etc...
It took very little time (compared to an earlier effort 4 months ago.....)
and the pxelinux/menu/memdisk environment is great for us.
The environment seems to support PXE

PXE booting
Hi!
I have been using pxelinux with memdisk to boot our workstations with
our custom floppy, which is a MSDOS boot disk (actually it is win98)
On one of the PC's I'm testing, a Fujitsu-Siemens which has an AMDtek
based on-board network card and when PXE is activated,
it gets an IP from the DHCP, then it finds the TFTP server, downloads
pxelinux.0, executes it which causes the floppy to

SYSLINUX 2.09, 2.10-pre1 released
Hi all,
I have released SYSLINUX 2.09; it is the same as 2.09-pre15 except for
the version number.
Changes in 2.09:
* SYSLINUX: Remove residual setuid crap from
syslinux-nomtools.
* Handle video pages correctly when using the API functions.
* Handle compiling on an x86-64 platform correctly.
* Menu system from Murali Krishnan Ganapathy; see the

memdisk and floppy controllers
Hi,
just tried memdisk - it works, even with token-ring network cards!
I've some problems with dos 6.22 on one machine, though. This one
doesn't have a floppy controller (e.g. linux reports that it didn't
find any controller). The Dos 6.22 boot disk is loaded, then the boot
sector is started and tells me that it can't load the system

I can't say much about the RH pxe thing, AFAIK this is really old.
