Textdrive / Joyent Support not responding?
I''m thinking about going with an accelerator account through Joyent
and have tried 3 times now to get a response to one simple question:
Does the setup costs include configuration of a standard rails app &
cron entry to start the app @ reboot? And if not, do they offer (for a
charge), services to configure this?
What worries me, Is I can''t keep any s...

Starting Thinking Sphinx on Joyent SmartOS with svcadm
I followed this tutorial: http://www.neo.com/2013/10/09/unicorn-on-joyent-smartos and the RailsCast about configuring Nginx and Unicorn, and successfully set up my first non-Passenger/Apache Rails app last weekend.
Buoyed by this success, I next set about trying to get ThinkingSphinx to restart when the server starts, and managed to get my server to run away with 115%...

[Ferret] QueryParser memory leak bug (Joyent/OpenSolaris)
QueryParser fails badly allocating enormous amount of memory when
processing query strings with special/accented characters. See:

irb(main):004:0> include Ferret

[Ferret] Serious memory leak on Joyent / TextDrive / Solaris
There is serious memory leak bug in ferret. I''m having this error on
TextDrive Container (aka. Joyent Accelerators) OpenSolaris with Ferret
0.11.4
It happens while searching for some terms with accented or special
characters.
This makes ferret to allocate lots of memory (usually reaching 3+ GB)
and failing if another query like this is executed.
Any ideas on that, could this be locale or any othe...

pkgsrc provider for Package?
Hello
I''m wondering if anyone has looked into adding pkgsrc package
management as a provider for Package?
We use Joyent accelerators (zones on OpenSolaris) for our many of our
production services and about a year ago Joyent switched from
Blastwave to pkgsrc for userland packages.

New binary package set for EL6 x86_64
...ilable. For now
I am specifically targetting EL6/x86_64 (the build host is CentOS 6.5)
to see what kind of interest in this. If there is reasonable interest
I can produce packages for other targets based on popularity.
To install, download and unpack the bootstrap kit:
$ curl -s http://pkgsrc.joyent.com/packages/Linux/bootstrap/bootstrap-2014Q2-el6-x86_64.tar.gz | sudo tar -zxpf - -C /
Packages are self-contained under the /usr/pkg prefix:
$ PATH=$PATH:/usr/pkg/sbin:/usr/pkg/bin
$ MANPATH=$MANPATH:/usr/pkg/man
Included is the "pkgin" binary package manager, which has been

[cfe-dev] [RFC] Open sourcing and contributing TAPI back to the LLVM community
...'t see
anything. Given the general need for something like a standardized
export list to feed a linker instead of the shared library itself, and
the utility of this specific format given its use by a major platform, I
think it definitely should be upstreamed.

Packaging Rails App as Standalone EXE
Hi,
Does anyone know what is currently the proper way to distribute a Rails
app as a windows exe (NT Service, how to package, ...).
I know there was
http://www.erikveen.dds.nl/distributingrubyapplications/rails.html, but
it''s pretty old.
Thanks

arcstat updates
Hi ZFSers,
I''ve been working on merging the Joyent arcstat enhancements with some of my own
and am now to the point where it is time to broaden the requirements gathering. The result
is to be merged into the illumos tree.
arcstat is a perl script to show the value of ARC kstats as they change over time. This is
similar to the ideas behind mpstat,...

fastercsv, freezing into vendor/gems
I''m using fastercsv such that in my rake file I''m doing this.
require ''fastercsv''
It works fine on my Mac.
I need to freeze this gem into the app though so my rake tasks work on
the production machine.

I spent about two hours though this weekend trying to get this Gem
"frozen" into the vendor/gems folder. I tried all sorts,

[cfe-dev] [RFC] Open sourcing and contributing TAPI back to the LLVM community
Hi Paul,
My experience has shown the same when it comes to header files and I am not
claiming this is going to work out of the box for all library projects. It
usually requires some cleanup first and that is why the tool comes with a
verification mode to make sure the headers are the truth. Also keep in mind
that you don't have to parse all the headers, but only the small set that

mongrel_cluster not starting on reboot
Hi,
I''m in the process of moving my blog over from lighttpd -> apache 2.2
+ mongrel. Everything works fine as long as I don''t reboot :)
On reboot apache comes up but mongrel_cluster doesn''t start up the pooches...
I have added the mongrel_cluster call to my startup scripts like so:
www:/etc/init.d# update-rc.d mongrel_cluster defaults

If this was in the docs, I''ve missed it. How can I have multiple

seems to assume that I am only running one cluster.

Output Compression in Mongrel?
I''d like to implement output compression in Mongrel (ala Apache''s
mod_deflate). I have found a Rails plugin that, with minor modification,
works.
Is there even an advantage to moving the output compression from the Rails
app to a Mongrel handler?
Unless, of course, someone knows how to configure mod_proxy_balancer with
mod_deflate...
