forking Markdown.pl?
...thought of forking and maintaining Markdown.pl (hopefully
with Gruber's blessing) to fix some of the known bugs?
I'm not volunteering (I'd be horrible)... just seeing if it's time to
have that discussion.

Numbered paragraph, unnumbered, numbered-- oops!
Entering a comment in WordPress, one of my users stumbled upon an
interesting problem with PHP Markdown:
1. You write a numbered paragraph.
You write a second, unnumbered paragraph to elaborate.
1. You another numbered paragraph, and the numbering resets to 1,
even if you number the paragraph 2.
I understand what's going on here, with PHP Markdown interpreting
each of the two numbers as

No way to indent text?
How could one indent (not quote) a block of text?
This is commonly done in Wikipedia with one or more colons at the
beginning of the line, and is very handy for threaded discussions.

A Modest Definition List Proposal
Howdy,
I've been thinking a lot about definition list syntax, and what I did
and didn't like about the PHP Markdown Extra syntax (which seems to be
a de-facto standard, discount notwithstanding, yes?). What I came up

Query about emphasis
Hello List,
Firstly, I was very impressed when I tried markdown 2.0 recently. Fantastic
work all!
I have a query about the treatment of emphasis.
I realise that the horse has bolted, and changes to currently supported
functionality are unlikely to attract support. However, there does seem (at
