forking Markdown.pl?

Numbered paragraph, unnumbered, numbered-- oops!
Entering a comment in WordPress, one of my users stumbled upon an interesting problem with PHP Markdown: 1. You write a numbered paragraph. You write a second, unnumbered paragraph to elaborate. 1. No way to indent text?
How could one indent (not quote) a block of text? This is commonly done in Wikipedia with one or more colons at the beginning of the line, and is very handy for threaded discussions.
