DNS forwading for host *within* AD
Hi, I am currently running Samba 4.0.9 as a DC. My AD domain and Kerberos realm is "domain.com". Although this was not considered when we set up the domain, now we need "foo.domain.com" to be resolved externally by our ISP DNS server. I tried to configure BIND as a backend and to manuallly add a zone " foo.domain.com", type forward, but it does not work (Samba DLZ

Replication issues after OS upgrade
I'm using the internal DNS backend from Samba. Anyway, after some further research, I found this: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1357471 https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11164 Not sure if the patch included is just a cosmetic one to avoid the error message or indeed fixes the replication problems. I can confirm this is due to connectivity issues between the

restarting samba using a cron job on Debian
The same happens to me on Debian 7 with the included Samba 4.1.17. Although relates to Ubuntu, this is the same issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/1357471 I can tell you that what triggers this are network connectivity issues between the DCs, even if they last a couple of seconds. Once the connectivity is restored, the replication stays broken unless Samba is restarted.

Oplock break failed on sysvol share
Hi team! Samba 4.1.11 on Debian Wheezy here, configured as a DC. I recently started noticing long startup times for the Windows clients, whenever multiple clients are started at the same time. For example, at 8:00 AM (when around 30 PCs get started simoultaneously, I get this in smbd.log: ### [2014/09/16 08:01:21.320944, 0] ../source3/smbd/oplock.c:335(oplock_timeout_handler) Oplock break

Disable PAM username change?
Hi! I have a problem involving Samba4, exim4, fetchmail, Dovecot and PAM... I am using Dovecot 2.1.7 on Debian Wheezy. I have setup a "maildrop" machine, which fetches mail from an external POP3 server for multiple accounts using fetchmail, delivers to local users mailboxes through exim4 and then serves them on the intranet via IMAP with Dovecot. This works great with local unix users,

Failed to bind to uuid ???
What Samba version are you using? I have seen a similar problem triggered by connectivity issues between the DCs. What's the output from samba-tool drs showrepl? Still, I haven't found a solution... Samba4 and sssd, keytab file expires?
Hi, The short answer to this is that Samba changes the machine account password every 7 days with the default settings. As you were told, if you join the domain with "kerberos method = secrets and keytab" on you smb.conf, the generated keytab won't expire. Another workaround would be to set "machine password timeout = 0" Best regards. On Mon, Dec 29, 2014 at 2:29 PM,

Samba4 as DC, idmapping with different backend?
Hi folks, I've been playing around with Samba 4.1.9 and sssd 1.13 for a while. I achieved consistent idmapping on Samba MEMBER servers through sssd and winbind nss idmap (configured towards sssd) Now, I also have some shares on a Samba4 DOMAIN CONTROLLER, and would like to get the consistent idmapping as well. Thanks to sssd, I actually do get a proper mapping everywhere on Linux itself

Keytabs (obviously) not valid after password change
Hi team, I recently deployed some member servers on a Samba4 AD domain, using sssd for consistent idmapping between servers. Everything works flawlessly, except that this time I decided to use the member server's machine account keytab. I noticed that every 7 days, the keytab "expires" and sssd cannot auth anymore against the AD. This is related to the fact that by default, every 7

Winbindd on 4.2+ full functionality?
Hi, I recently upgraded from 4.1.17 to 4.3.1. I thought that the winbindd daemon for AD included since 4.2 would allow proper and complete winbind operation as in member servers, but that doesn't seem to be the case. In particular, I want consistent UIDs on DCs for files created within Windows (so I can avoid the "somehow keep idmap.ldb in sync between DCs" hell). I made several

FSMO commands not working on 4.3.1
Hi guys! I am currently running 4.3.1 on Debian Jessie (compiled from the experimental repo). Pretty much everything seems to be working fine, but the FSMO functions: --------- root at dc2:~# samba-tool fsmo show ERROR(<type 'exceptions.KeyError'>): uncaught exception - 'No such element' File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/samba/netcmd/__init__.py", line 175,

Yet another "Can I change user's SID" question
Good evening team, I have read lots of topics and posts explaining why you *shouldn't* manually change a user's SID on the databases, and I agree with the "phylosophical" reasons behind it, let's say. Now, what happens if besides all the warnings you still do it?? What else might break, considering that we are careful enough to not enter a duplicate, or obvious errors? I

Home drive and logon scripts intermitently not applied
Hi folks, This problem has been driving me nuts for the last 3 years... Now I am running Samba 4.0.9 but the very same was happening before the migration to AD, with Samba 3.x. Most clients are running WinXP SP3 with all updates. The problem is that both the logon script and home drive defined on the "Profile" tab on the AD Users and Computers MMC, *RANDOMLY* and *INTERMITENTLY* does

Are secure DNS updates truly working?
Hi team, I recently upgrade some servers from v4.3.5 (affected by https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11520 ) to v4.5.8 (default in Debian Stretch) and was expecting secure DNS updates to be working again, but they are not. My logs show the same issues reported on bug 11520: [2017/08/29 15:21:01.990467, 2] ../source4/dns_server/dns_update.c:773(dns_server_process_update) Got a dns

[HowTo] Installing Samba and sssd on Debian Wheezy (with manual backport)
Hi everyone, A couple of weeks ago I wanted to install Samba and sssd on a Debian Wheezy server. The Samba version from the wheezy-backports repo looks and feels fairly well packaged by now and is updated to the upstream version, so in my opinion that's the way to go. As regards sssd, I wanted a version supporting the AD backend (the one in the Wheezy repos doesn't), so I backported it
