Cups print jobnames became SMB jobname not doc name
Since upgrading to Fedora Core 3 the jobname for the files being printed to
our PDF CUPS backend have become the Samba jobname as in
"SMBPRN.888009.hjdcl" instead of the application filename such as "Microsoft
Word - Document1.DOC". This stops us from providing a properly-named PDF
file to our users.
Our other server that is still on Core 1 does not have this problem.

not enough charcters available in %J or confusing blanks?
Hi,
I try to create PDF files with an modified script from Buchan Milne and
have some problems with the Jobname var %J.
Because it is better for the users to find an file with an similar name
as the original document I'm looking for a way to read out %J, cut some
unnessasary stuff and use the rest as new file name. The problem is:
In %J in some circumstances is not the complete Jobname as

print command: ? for decent print accounting (Was Printing. The REAL jobname. )
Hi All,
i'm still trying to persue this thing with the real jobname getting logged.
i want to have the following (as per the example in the man page):
print command = echo Printing %J %c %p >> /tmp/job.log; lpr -P %p %s; rm %s
funnily enough the cups manages to get the username that submitted the job,
but i can't see a % thing to pass the username though to a log file.

Printing. The REAL jobname. :)
Hi All,
I've got a very nicely working samba server with cups as the backend. i
also have a colour printer on which I must do billing every month.
i've done a test page or two and the username comes though to the colour
printer which is good. problem i had is the jobname in the logs is
smbprn_xxxxxxxx_xx (numbers) which is the samba job name. if joe bloggs
complains and says he

Jobnames displayed by lpq: Fixed a bit
There has been some correspondence about getting the file names displayed
with lpq instead of the smbXXXXX name. The -J option works, but, with some
documents, notably Microsoft Word and Corel WP9, the application sends a
long preamble, such that the file name is never seen in the queue when
listed with lpq.
eg:
Microsoft Word - PRINT FILE NAME.doc
So, to fix this up, at least for word documents,

Scrambled Jobnames when Printing
...itable = no
printable = yes
create mode = 0700
print command = /usr/bin/perl /home/lxp/bin/lxp.pl "%m" "%
s" /home/lxp/spool/tcacol-spool/ 2>> /home/lxp/logs/lxpprt.log
Everything works perfectly - however, as users migrated from W98 to W2k &
winXP the Print Jobnames that they've been using have been turning into
something similar to "smbprn.003702.d4aZ5g"
I don't understand why - however if you print to a windows printer queue - the
name of the document turns up perfectly.
Any Ideas?

Samba spoolfile name
L.S.
Situation:
I am running Samba 2.2.7a as my DPC in a small business network with win98/ME clients.
A big Fiery printer/scanner/copier device is also part of this network. It has its own printserver.
Since Win98/ME can not print to an LPD queue directly, I have setup Samba to spool the printjobs send by the clients to the Fiery server.
All is working well, but there is a small problem.

Filename for printing?
Hi, all. I'm trying to create a PDF queue... or, rather, I already have a
homebrew solution I hacked together with an lprng filter, and it doesn't
work too well. The solution at www.linuxgazette.com/issue72/bright.html,
which uses the smb.conf and "print command" paramaters, appears to be much
more elegant, but has one major shortfall: I don't see any way to get the

Samba-CUPS interface
Hi,
One of our Samba server (4.4.5) is a print server with CUPS backend . In
addition we are using a print management product that is itself a backend
to cups.
Everything works well, except that the document names that are transmitted
in the chain is of the form : "smbprn.00000648 MyDocument.pdf" . I guess
that the prefix smbprn.00000648 is the samba job ID that is concatenated to

R and condor
Hello,
I would be extremely grateful if anyone is able to provide any (rather obscure) advice on using R with Condor. I think I'm following Xianhong Xie's instructions (R News 5(2) 13-15) correctly, but my job just stays held in the queue (for days / months). I've checked condor_status to make sure there are plenty of machines available, but can't see any way to attack the

pgfSweave-example not compiling
I'm trying to get pgfSweave up and running. Hopefully I can get it
working from within LyX, but first I'm just trying to get the simplest
possible thing (compiling one of the example files in the pgfSweave
package) to work. I'm using the example that comes in the pgfSweave
package unmodified, but for reference I copied it to:

PDF printing with printing = CUPS
Hi everyone.
I've been looking into the subject of "printing" to PDF with Samba in the
last couple of days.
Sorry to say that I wasted some time trying to figure out why the [print-pdf
generator] in smb.conf didn't work.
As always reading every comment carefully will pay off in terms of time
wasted!
After I realized that with printing = cups in smb.conf samba ignores any

Modified Cups Backed pdf writer to keep the original document name.
Hi All,
I've got a samba/cups pdf writer going thanks to PeteFwee and Wolfram Q and
a few others... the cups pdf backed i used has a default of
username-date.pdf which I didn't like and wanted the name of the job that
got send in the printer q on the winslows client.
The only way I could see in my very limited experience was to grab the
%%Title out of the postscript file and make sure
