[patch] PXE-On-A-Disk: etherboot2ethersel.pl patched for etherboot-5.4.3+dfgs
PXE-On-A-Disk from (ftp://ftp.scyld.com/private/jlehan/pxe-on-a-disk.html) was posted on syslinux mailing list: http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2005-December/006222.html. It is being mentioned by syslinux wiki, or some other documentation of syslinux that I currently can't find. I tried etherboot2ethersel.pl from PXE-On-A-Disk (ftp://ftp.s...

Installing SYSLINUX in PBR, not MBR?
.... Are there any gotchas to installing SYSLINUX in the PBR of a partition, and not the MBR of the overall hard drive? The reason I want to do this, is to take my "PXE-on-a-disk" project, and install it simply into one very small (1MB or so) FAT16 partition. ftp://ftp.scyld.com/private/jlehan/pxe-on-a-disk.html This partition would be placed near the very beginning of the drive. The goal is to have a way of choosing to boot PXE or the fully-installed operating system, on a "lights-out" installation, without having to physically intervene and change the computer's BIOS...

What do you which you new about pxelinux?
Hi All, I am going to be presenting a 45 minute session at Linux World in April on how to use PXELinux to provision linux systems, among other things. This probably isn't of value to most on the list, as it is geared towards giving new users a jumpstart on what's needed so that they can get up and going quickly along with some practical suggestions and tips. I'll be

USB question
The BIOS on my laptop does not support booting from USB. I would like to be able to have my Windows XP on a partition on a USB disk drive and be able to run from the USB disk using perhaps a CD or floppy to bootstrap the system. My questions: 1). Is there a way to use syslinux and friends to do this? 2). If not, is there some other boot loader that may work? 3). Is there any hope at all?

Bootable Floppy w/ Networking & Shell?
I realize this is probably the wrong list but since some of the principals this list deals with are similar in nature I figured it could't hurt. What I am looking to do: Provide a solution to either boot from a floppy disk, establish a network connection, give user the ability to run utilities such as fdisk and dd. as well as provide the same solution as a PXE bootable image. My

...king code. I like the Idea of booting a simple fail safe system and restarting a production kernel. Yes, UML- Linux would let me do some of this. I need to also look at UML. PXE-on-a-disk Intel EM64T reboot
Hello! I have been successful using SYSLINUX and Etherboot to create a generic "PXE-on-a-disk" package, a floppy image and CD image that support as many Ethernet cards as possible. These have support for all of Etherboot's modules that support real PCI cards: about 25-or-so drivers and 250-or-so cards. I've built Etherboot ZLILO images, one for each driver, set up to boot

USB key: CBIOS line printed, nothing else
Here's an interesting problem, and the first partial failure I've seen when booting USB keys. I've installed a bootable Knoppix "CD" image to my USB key, and posted a writeup of my installation method here: http://knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=25402 Up until now, I've always had one of: 100% success (it fully boots) 100% failure (BIOS fails to recognize the USB
