unix gethostbyname for WINS
...ld like to
have a unix machine respond to WINS queries when it finds the requested name
in it's host file. I have experimented with 'wins proxy', 'dns proxy', and
'wins server', but didn't find a configuration which would respond to the
queries.

Cal Comp Plotters and Printing
...p plotters on our HP-UX machines for PC printing.
What we did was install the Calcomp CCRF print drivers (see www.calcom.com)
on our PC's; then setup the HP Samba machine to use raw mode printing.
Since HP doesn't use bsd printing I can't help with the unix side...
sorry.

Smbclient bind to IP
...ind to a second IP address on our Sequent box
so we can prioritize traffic based upon the source IP address. Will smbclient support this ? Does anyone want
this ? I could hack the code to add it, but don't want to create a non-standard smbclient that I would have to
support.

How to get nmbd to work?
I have NEVER been able to get nmbd to work in anything even remotely
approximating a usable fashion.
All I want it to do is DNS lookups.
I can't even get it to do that reliably. It looks in some cases like it
isn't even sending a response back to the querying clients.
When I do a request that fails, I get this:
---
nmb packet from 192.55.114.4(3175) header: id=8172 opcode=Query(0)
