Review and maintenance of the JavaOnCentOS article.
Hello everyone!
In a CentOS forum thread[1], I was asked by forum member "AlanJBartlett"
if I would like to take on the care and feeding of the latter (section
3?) part of the "JavaOnCentOS" article.
Initially, I would like to correct the Sun JDK 1.6 part, which instructs
readers to download the wrong Sun JDK file (there are two, one .bin and
one rpm.bin) for the actual steps listed.
When that's done, I can review and update the other JDK parts as and
when needed.
I have...

HowTos/JavaOnCentOS Wiki page revision?
...my Wiki Profile page, http://wiki.centos.org/MilosBlazevic?action=show
and would like update the Java Wiki page with this content.
Of course, for this to happen only after a thorough revision of the
manual by the community. All critics and suggestions are most welcome.
Now, regarding the current JavaOnCentOS Wiki page:
I'm fully aware of the "cry-outs" that the whole page needs a revision
and a maintainer, and I'm willing to contribute in the form of "Java
installation manual for desktop users", which is IMHO vaguely covered on
the Java Wiki, section 3.1 "Java for t...

Suggestion for "how to" section: easy way to install the JDK?
I've read website http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS. I am a total
newbie with CentOS, but currently, with update 21 of the Java 6 JDK and CentOS
5.5, the installing the JDK appears to be simpler:
1. Download the latest *rpm.bin jdk (as of today,jdk-6u21-linux-i586-rpm.bin)
fromhttp://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/widget/jdk6.jsp
2. chmod +x t...

Java Setup
Hi People
I have been following the instructions here
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS but trying to modify them for
jdk-6u7-linux-amd64.rpm but there doesn't see to be a compatible
java-1.6.0-sun-compat-*.rpm. Does one exist ?
If not can anyone point me to some documentation on how I can manually
set up things so alternatives will work allowing multiple Java versions.

wiki and author/maintainer name
Hi all,
I think that every wiki page should have a name(s) of the
author/maintainer of that page like in:
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS
The name that appears at the bottom is not adequate because it could
be someone who has just corrected a typo. In fact, that entry can be
eliminated once the contact info has been given on the page.
The whole purpose of this is of course to make it easier for people to
send in corrections / que...

wiki access
Hi,
since I, just hours ago, followed
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS (Sun's JDK) I thought I'd
confirm and update the "A less simple approach" with information that's
a bit newer than jdk 1.4.
Registered WIKI account: MikaelFridh
Furthermore, I'd like to ask you if anyone know what was meant by the
comment on the wiki:

Installing java on CentOS 5
strugging with things here...
tried tracking the info on the Wiki (which apparently is now in need of
a maintainer)...
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS
My primary interest is using Xalan/Saxon/xslt/xsl-fo docbook generation.
I was thinking that all I really need is jre but downloaded both jre and
jdk just in case.
can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? (after removing both jdk &
jre)...

CentOS 5 and Java
Hi,
I just installed CentOS 5 on a few machines, to experiment with it. I
have some trouble installing a Java plugin for Firefox. I've searched
through the forum and read the various info at jpackage.org, and I'm a
bit confused.
1) Can you point me to some reliable bit of information, even if it's
laconic?
2) If I understand the info on http://jpackage.org/yum.php correctly,

JPackage, Java 1.5.0, and CentOS 5?
Hey, y'all.
I don't know how many folks here are familiar with a blogging program
called 'pebble' http://pebble.sourceforge.net, but it's *supposed* to be
an easy drop-in to a tomcat5 container. I suppose that it is, once I
figured out how to get tomcat 5 working in CentOS 5, but I'm still
having problems with the java.
CentOS comes with Java 1.4.2, but I need Java

tomcat still sees jvm version 1.4.2 in Cent OS 5
i chose to install tomcat during the OS install as well as java....however, since I needed to use a different jvm, i used the method described in http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/JavaOnCentOS for Sun jdk 1.5.0_13 and it worked fine as I can tell, as using the alternatives --config java command, i see both 1.4.2 and 1.5.0 versions and choosing the 1.5.0 version yields the right version when doing a "java -version" command....also doing a "which java" also points to t...

Java RE
Hello.
Package Manager reports (with a green checkmark) that I have java-1.6.0
installed on my machine (running Cent 5.3), but it seems to not be
running. I used http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml and got
"Something is wrong. Java is not working."
Perhaps I'm confused on which program I need to use java-coded apps. PM
lists this app as "OpenJDK Runtime

Proposal: Java HowTo Section
...create a Java HowTo section on the wiki. I'd like to provide a more
detailed proposal for adding more Java documentation.
Summary of Current Java HowTo
-------------------------------------------
Currently there is a single Java How To in the "Misc" section, called
"HowTos/JavaOnCentOS". Since I am new to CentOS the first thing I did
was look in the Table of Contents for HowTos and didn't see "Java"
listed. Fortunately, I searched the page for "Java" and found the
article. For this reason, and more because I hope that there will soon
be multip...

Installing RWeka package in CentOS 5: problems with JAVA?
Hi,
I am a R user, with some experience in MacOS, Linux, etc, but I am
having a problem that I cannot solve:
I have a linux server (CentOS 5) and I installed sun jdk1.6. For instance:
$ java -version
Java version "1.6.0_10-rc2"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_10-rc2-b32)
Java HotSpot(TM) Server VM (build 11.0-b15, mixed mode)
I also installed the latest version of R:

Building tomcat6, SRPM jakarta-commons-dbcp-1.2.1-7jpp.ep1.2.ep5.el5.src.rpm fails to build
Hello all
I'm trying to build tomcat6 from the SRPMs provided at [1], but I appear to have hit a wall. One of the dependencies of tomcat6-6.0.18-8.18.1.noarch [2] is jakarta-commons-dbcp-tomcat5 (provided by jakarta-commons-dbcp [3]). (I don't see why it's requiring tomcat5 components, maybe that's my problem).
When I try to build jakarta-commons-dbcp, compilation fails:
