I have some software that says it requires JRE 8.1 or higher. If I go
to http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre8-downloads-2133155.html
and install jre-8u144-linux-x64.rpm I get jrel.8.0_144. Anyone know
where I can get 8.1?

...very odd, since technically JRE 8 is java 1.8 (and JRE 7 is/was 1.7;
JRE 6 was 1.6, et cetera).

[Ubuntu 11.10] Unable to run (java?) games
...lash fine and now I can watch the preview videos and things from steam so I know that's installed fine.
I find I am unable to install Java though.
I attempted to install Java in the same way I did flash. First I tried the online file which gave this error:
