HTB + speed a bit lower than what shaped to
...ses, but when i do a download from the mailserver, im suppose to get 4Kb, and it starts at 5Kb , which is burst, and then move down towards 4kb then 3kb and stays around there, but never goes to 4 on the dot. Is this normal or should it be perfectly 4Kb/s ? Am i doing something wrong? Thanks Jandre -- Regards Jandre "Some people are alive only because it is illegal to kill them." _____________________________________________________

Matching with Layer7 vs. IPP2P
Hi, can anybody comment on the cost of matching with IPP2P vs. Layer7. Also, does a iptables rule with more complicated matching mechanism also slow down processing if all the packets are matched before they reach the rule. I.e. is the mere existence of a potentially costly rule already slowing down processing or only if packets are actually processed by it? Thanks very much in advance.

Interfaces basic question
I have a router with only one physical ethernet cable. I know it''s stupid, but it is the network I have to use for a demo. I have in mind to construct an HTB class tree for some network limitations for the outgoing traffic. The question is: can i use the HTB class mechanism on 2 subinterfaces of the same physical network card without any interference? Please let me know as soon as

Hi, I have 2 interfaces - one for adsl and other for LAN on my Linux gateway machine. The IP addresses are 10.10.10.3 & 192.168.10.101 respectively. Now my routing tables show this particular entry. What exactly is this? 169.254.0.0/16 dev eth0 scope link Or by traditional route -n, 169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 What exactly is this 169.254.0.0/16
